Yr 7 Boys / Mixed Regional Netball

On Friday the 14th of August the Year 7 boys netball team participated in regionals, having passed through district with flying colours. The boys played brilliantly and didn't give up although unfortunately losing two of their three games, meaning they didn't go through to the next round. Regardless, the boys represented the school well, with great teamwork, resilience and respect.

Many thanks to Ms. Patterson and Ms. G for supervising and supporting our team. We hope to see all the boys next year!

Yr 9/10 Girls Regional Netball

On Monday 17th of August our Year 9/10 Girls netball team went off to La Trobe Sports Stadium for a competitive regional day. They started the day off strong with a win against Coburg High School. Unfortunately, the celebrations ended after our first game, coming close against Hazel Glen and then losing our final game against St Helena. The girls showed great teamwork and high levels of skills and were very encouraging to each other throughout the day. We were able to enjoy some sunshine outside between games and they are keen to back it up again next year!

Yr 7/8 Basketball Selection Tournament

On August 17 we held our Year 7/8 Basketball selection tournament.  This is also a popular day on our sporting calendar.  This is fun day with 137 students in attendance playing a round robin event.  Whilst this is an opportunity for our staff and student coaches to select our division teams, it also gives all students a great day out playing basketball. This day could not run as smoothly without the help of our student coaches and referees – Wim Lobb, Felix Hodge, Anton Alviano, Mary McKie, Ella Stafford, Ari French, Callum George, Clive Tse Brasier, Spencer Greenow and Nefelli Woollard

Yr 8 Division Basketball

Well done to all of our Year 8 Basketballers who were selected to represent Northcote in the Division Tournament which was held at Narrandjeri Stadium on August 25.  All of our teams had some competitive matches throughout the day, displaying great skills and fantastic teamwork.

Our Girls A team had a win against Lalor North in the second final to come overall 3rd for the day. Our Boys A team came away as overall winners playing off in the Grand final against Preston. The boys now progress through to Regionals on October 26 at Mill Park Stadium. Thank you to our student coaches – Anton Alviano, Ari French, Callum George and Ella Stafford who all did a fantastic job coaching our junior teams

Yr 7/8 Division Hockey

On Monday the 31st of August, the Year 7s and Year 8s competed in their district field hockey championships. 4 teams from Northcote attended, 2 girl teams and 2 boys, but sadly only 2 teams made it through. All 4 teams, however, played their hearts out and every game was a close one. The sun was out, the heat was high, but no matter how uncomfortable they felt, or if they were losing or winning, they still gave it their all and fought it out till the very end.

The Year 7 boys drew their game 0-0 and it went to shootouts (each player stands at the

25 yard line and has 8 seconds to dribble the ball into the attacking semi-circle/D and score). 5 boys from Northcote were selected to complete the shootouts and complete them they did! None of these boys had ever played hockey before but you wouldn't be able to tell if you watched them play.

Shoutout to their amazing goalkeeper Ollie McBride Burgess for an absolutely stunning game. For someone who had never put the pads on before he only let 2 goals in, with at least 9 direct shots on goal. The Year 7 boys won their game and are now going to Regionals.

The Year 8 girls also made it to regionals through shootouts. They had a couple more players who played hockey for different clubs, or used to play, but it was a very tough game against Thornbury. At full time, the score was 2-2, and they also went to shootouts. Elizabeth Weller was their goalkeeper and like Ollie, had never put the pads on before. But during shootouts she didn't let a single goal in! Rhea (don't know for sure) scored Northcote's first shootout goal as the fourth taker, and if Elizabeth saved Thornbury's next one, they would win. And she did!

Oliver Semmens-Erickson coached all the goalkeepers throughout the day and was constantly helping and directing them through shootouts, without him the final turn out of the day may have been very different. Thank you Ollie!

Congratulations to all the players who played last Monday and to all the players who made it through to the next round, good luck.

-Darani Seng  (Student coach)

A big thank you to all of our student coaches who helped us with junior hockey - Oliver Semmens-Erickson, Darani Seng, Millie Scott, Eva Schmitt and Atticus Dowling.  These students were fantastic in helping and coaching our younger players throughout the day.

Yr 9/10 Boys / Mixed State Soccer

Our first game of the state championships was against trinity college Colac, with a well fought 3-0 victory thanks to 2 goals from Raff Groves and one from Sonny Dryden.

Our second game was against Catherine McCauley college which we again came out victorious 3-0 with goals from Cruz Dearman, Cruz Lyons and Asher Stambanis.

Our last game in our pool was against Gleneagles secondary, which we needed to win to advance to the final. A tight contest saw the game end 0-0. As we were tied on goal difference with Gleneagles, it came down to whoever had less yellow cards throughout the day which unfortunately meant that we would not progress into the final.

Despite the unfortunate end to our 2026 season, it’s amazing how far we came, going through division, regionals and state only conceding 2 goals thanks to an incredible defence and scoring roughly 30 goals through a such a strong midfield and attack. Everyone should be so proud of their efforts, and I had an amazing time coaching Northcote High School's "team of the century". Thank you to all the supporters who turned up on the day and thank you to Ms Dridan and Ms Wilson for all their help and support throughout the tournament.

-Jett Lyons (student coach)

Yr 7 Division Basketball

Our Yr 7 Basketball teams competed in the Divisional competition on September 7.  Once again Northcote showed their skills and teamwork in some very close matches throughout the day.  Our Boys A team came through as overall winners on the day securing them a spot in the Regionals on October 29 at Mill Park Stadium. Thanks again to our wonderful coaches, Wim Lobb, Spencer Greenow, Felix Hodge, Mary Mckie and Lucy Davenport-Pilling
