Stage 2 AFL Gala Day

On Tuesday 25 March, our Year 3 and 4 students had an absolute kicker of a day at our AFL Gala Day.

Students enjoyed learning and developing their AFL skills and displayed great sportsmanship while playing against other schools. It was great to see students' enthusiasm off the field as well, practicing their kicks and passes during their rest breaks.  We were incredibly blessed by our amazing High School PASS students who helped facilitate and umpire each of the games. We had 10 fields in action at one time.

Students Shine at Secondary State Swimming

Five of our talented students represented our school at CSSA Secondary State Swimming held on Monday 25 March at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC).

It was a fantastic day of racing, with our swimmers rising to the challenge against some of the best in the state. The level of competition was high, and the event was buzzing with energy as students from across NSW gave it their all.

We are proud to share that several of our swimmers achieved new personal bests on the day – a testament to their hard work, determination, and training.

Congratulations to Millie S, Che, Jorden, Emily McL & Tamsin who competed – your efforts and sportsmanship were outstanding!

Pushing Limits at the Australian National Mountain Bike Championships

by Ned G, Year 12

From 12-16 March, I travelled to Victoria to compete in the Australian National Mountain Bike Championships.

The weekend included the XCC on Friday and the XCO on Sunday. XCC stands for Cross Country Criterium – a shorter, time-based event. During the XCC, I was in a pack of five riders until the second-last lap, where I launched a breakaway and secured 8th place out of 18 riders.

Sunday's XCO race brought tough conditions with strong winds, rain, cold temperatures, and even the possibility of snow. These factors made the race particularly challenging, and I finished in 13th place.

It was definitely an eventful weekend, and I’m grateful to come away with a top-10 finish at a national-level event.

Stage 5 PASS Students Experience F45 Training

As part of the Stage 5 Physical Activity and Sport Studies (PASS) elective, students recently visited F45 Training in South Nowra to explore alternative recreational activities and experience movement in a new setting.

The excursion complemented their current Body Systems unit, offering a practical look at how the body responds to different types of training. F45 is known for its high-intensity, functional group workouts that combine cardio and resistance training in fast-paced, results-driven sessions.

Students embraced the challenge and gained valuable insight into diverse ways to stay active and maintain lifelong fitness.

Leadership and Learning at CRU FIT

Last Friday, ten of our Year 6 students – Amelia, Bethany, Cam, Hannah, James, Leo, Matilda, Nate, Patrick, and Savannah – had the incredible opportunity to attend CRU FIT (Followers in Training) at Calderwood Christian School.

Along with other students from the area, they spent the day learning about leadership and exploring what it means to be a CRU leader.

For those who might not know, CRU (Crusader Union of Australia) is a Christian youth ministry that aims to spread the good news of Jesus in schools across Australia. Here at NCS, we are blessed to have CRU lunchtime groups for Year 3 to Year 6 students, where they can come together, engage with the Bible, meet new friends, and enjoy some fun games. For the past six years, CRU has been an exciting part of our school life!

CRU FIT is a special event held each year, designed to equip students with the leadership skills needed to serve Jesus in all areas of life – whether it’s at school, church, home, or within their CRU groups. It offers the chance for students to build a strong foundation in leadership, all while having lots of fun!

This year’s focus at CRU FIT was all about how Jesus is the King who serves us. During the event, students listened to an engaging Bible talk that challenged them to serve Jesus as leaders in their everyday lives. Afterward, they participated in different electives, where they had the chance to dive deeper into specific leadership skills. Some students learned how to run exciting games, others practiced leading as servants in CRU groups, and a few explored creative ways to advertise their CRU groups to others. These electives were both exciting and practical, teaching students how to lead chants, share Bible stories through acting, pray for others, and organise engaging group games.

At the end of the day, all the students came together to present a mock CRU group, showcasing the leadership skills they had learned throughout the event.

Lots of Socks Day Raises $1,371

On March 21, Nowra Christian School students and staff stepped out in style for Lots of Socks Day, a vibrant fundraiser in support of World Down Syndrome Day. The school community embraced the spirit of the day by donning their most colourful and mismatched socks, raising awareness and funds for a great cause.

Through the generous contributions of our school community, the event successfully raised $1,371 to support individuals with Down syndrome.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and donated—your kindness and enthusiasm made a real difference!

Farewell Dr Noelene Weatherby-Fell

After 16 incredible years at the University of Wollongong Shoalhaven campus, Associate Professor Noelene Weatherby-Fell is moving on to new opportunities. Noelene has played a vital role in shaping the careers of many local teachers, guiding and supporting them through their Master of Teaching studies.

Dr. Weatherby-Fell played a pivotal role in the School of Education, overseeing the graduation of over 1,000 students. Her commitment to teacher education has left a lasting impact on both the university community and the broader educational landscape, particularly in the Shoalhaven.

Dr Weatherby-Fell attended our NCS Thanksgiving Evenings, presenting special awards to students on behalf of the University of Wollongong.

As she embarks on this new chapter, NCS wishes to thank Dr Weatherby-Fell for her commitment to our school and our teachers. A farewell evening was attended by Mrs Stewart who presented a gift and card on behalf of our school.
