Reaching Our Potential

Over the last two weeks I’ve enjoyed chatting to students and parents at the Academic Conferences. Feedback has been positive and constructive, and has indicated that some great learning and teaching has been occurring over this first term. Academic Conferences highlight to me the importance of strong partnerships between parents and teachers for the benefit of our students. One of the things I love about GNLC is our belief that every student is on a journey of growth, seeking to reach their full potential as the person God has created them to be. As I reflect on the learning growth of Term 1, I find encouragement in Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Each student has been created with purpose, and we have the joy of watching and guiding them as they continue to grow and step into their full potential.

Privilege & Responsibility

This week was a milestone for both our Preps and Year 12 students. For the Preps, it marked the joyous completion of their very first term of school, while for the Year 12s, it was a poignant moment—their final Term 1 at GNLC.

To celebrate this special occasion, we held a meaningful gift exchange. The Year 12s presented each Prep with a GNLC teddy bear, a token of welcome and encouragement, while in return, they received their much-anticipated Year 12 jumper—a symbol of both privilege and responsibility.

The Year 12 jumper is more than just a tradition; it represents the culmination of years of dedication and the transition into leadership within the College community. Wearing it is an earned privilege, but it also comes with the responsibility to uphold the highest standards in learning, embody the College’s values, and demonstrate a Christ-like attitude in all they do.

Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) Walk My Way

Participating in Sunday’s 12km walk to support vulnerable children worldwide was a heartwarming experience. Walking alongside my friends, connecting with others, and hearing inspiring stories throughout the day made it even more meaningful. ALWS’ cause is especially personal to me as someone of Nepali heritage. Being able to support children in Nepal who do not have access to education, reminds me of how truly blessed I am to attend school every day. I am incredibly grateful to have been part of this event, surrounded by people who were also ‘Stepping out to help a child step up’.

Year 9 Visual Art and Visual Communication Design

Year 9 Visual Communication Design students are developing their skills in manual technical drawing, working on architectural and design drawings using tech drawing boards. They are learning various techniques, including orthographic and perspective drawing, while also learning about design rendering through depicting Duplo structures. Meanwhile, in Year 9 Visual Art, students are focusing on self-portrait collages, concentrating on the dimensions of the face and accurately depicting facial features, as well as communicating ideas around identity. These hands-on projects encourage creativity, precision, and a deeper understanding of how to communicate ideas using visual elements of Art and Design.

Youth Leadership Academy Australia (YLAA) Secondary Conference

Attending YLAA’s conference was an enlightening experience to share with my fellow student leaders. The messages shared by many speakers, emphasised the importance of leadership through service, integrity, and wellbeing, which resonated with me. It was also inspiring to network with young, like-minded leaders from across Victoria, all united by a shared vision to lead their communities. I left the day feeling motivated to drive a positive change at the College!
