Child Safety at Moama Anglican Grammar

This time last year, we featured our commitment to child safety here at Moama Anglican Grammar in the newsletter. Child Safety continues to be a priority. Over the course of this year, we will feature in more detail what we have and are doing as a school to implement the NSW Child Safe Standards. In today’s newsletter, we will outline details about actions we have taken regarding Child Safe Standards 1 and 2.

Standard 1: Child Safety is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.

Moama Anglican Grammar:

  • has a public-facing commitment statement to Child Safety
  • has a Child Safe Policy that is reviewed on an ongoing basis
  • has implemented Child Safe Risk Management Strategies
  • ensures all leadership meetings have Child Safety as a standing agenda item
  • has both an adult and student code of conduct that staff and students have read
  • has Child Safe activities included in our students’ school diaries that are implemented
  • have posters displayed around the school highlighting the Standards for staff - and for students, we have posters that state they have a right to feel safe and who they can contact if they don’t
  • board, leaders and staff complete either online or face-to-face training each year on Child Safety and are aware of their obligations and responsibilities regarding child safety
  • staff and volunteer inductions include a focus on Child Safety
  • has Child safety embedded in the school’s decision-making processes

Standard 2: Children participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.

Moama Anglican Grammar:

  • invited students to form a student working group (including students from both Primary and Secondary) who had input into creating child-friendly Child Safe resources

  • has posters in every classroom that includes internal and external support services contacts for students and that also states that children have a right to feel safe at our school

  • staff complete training to recognise signs of harm and facilitate child-friendly ways for children to communicate and raise their concerns

  • has age-appropriate School Diary activities that all students complete at the start of each year facilitated by their Tutor (Secondary) or class teacher (Primary) and review over the year

  • recognises the importance of friendships and support from peers is encouraged, helping children feel safe and avoid being isolated

  • has risk management strategies that identify practices that disempower children and outline how to respond to them so that children are empowered

  • has a child-friendly Child Safe policy

The NSW Child Safe Standards were introduced to ensure schools are compliant and, more importantly, doing everything they can to keep students safe. We take this responsibility very seriously and as always, our number one priority is to support and ensure the safety of all our students at Moama Anglican Grammar.

If you have any queries about Child Safety at our school, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Kathleen Kemp at kkemp@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au or one of our Executive Team.

Empowering Learning Through BYOD: A Guide for Secondary Families

At Moama Anglican Grammar, we are committed to providing our students with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving digital world. As part of this commitment, we're excited to continue our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program for our secondary students. This initiative empowers students to take charge of their learning by integrating technology into their everyday educational experience.

Why BYOD?

The BYOD program is designed to enhance learning by allowing students to use their own devices in the classroom. This approach not only fosters digital literacy but also encourages students to become more responsible and self-directed learners. With personal devices, students can access a wealth of resources, collaborate with peers, and engage in interactive learning activities tailored to their individual needs.

Introducing FUYL Towers for Convenient Charging

To further support our students in managing their devices, we are thrilled to introduce the new FUYL charging towers located in the Resource Centre and Middle School. These smart charging stations offer a secure and convenient way for students to charge their devices during the school day. Whether a student needs a quick top-up or a full charge, the FUYL Towers ensure that their learning is uninterrupted.

Key Benefits:

  1. Personalized Learning: Students can customize their learning environment to suit their preferences and learning styles, making education more engaging and effective.
  2. Seamless Access: With their own devices, students can easily access educational tools and resources anytime, anywhere, ensuring continuous learning beyond the classroom. Moama Anglican Grammar also supplies all students with licences to enterprise-level software and tools to ensure that students have access to industry-standard software.
  3. Skill Development: Using personal devices helps students develop essential 21st-century skills, such as digital communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Guidelines for Families:

To ensure the success of the BYOD program, we encourage families to consider the following guidelines when selecting a device for their child:

  1. Device Specifications: Ensure the device meets the minimum technical requirements outlined by the school. This includes compatibility with essential software and applications used in the curriculum. Device specifications can be found on our website.
  2. Security Measures: Equip devices with up-to-date antivirus software and encourage students to practice safe online behaviours.
  3. Encourage Responsible Use: Discuss the importance of responsible device use with your child. Encourage them to balance screen time with other activities and to use their devices ethically and respectfully.

Support and Resources:

We understand that for many new families transitioning to a BYOD environment may raise questions or concerns. Our IT department is here to support you every step of the way.
