Primary School

At Moama Anglican Grammar, all Year 6 students are involved in the Peer Support program. This program provides a wonderful opportunity for students to push beyond their comfort zone and lead the younger students in a connected learning task. Not only is it a chance for the students to lead, but it also requires them to collaborate effectively with their Year 6 peers to plan and facilitate the task. The focus for this term's Peer Support session was Harmony Day.

Harmony Day celebrates Australia's cultural diversity. Harmony Day is about including, respecting and appreciating the stories, traditions and cultures of all people who call Australia home. The 2025 theme, "Harmony - we all have a role to play!" encourages everyone to actively participate in creating an inclusive and respectful environment.

The Year 6 students led an informative craft session for our Primary students to promote the message of Harmony Day. It provided a great opportunity for our students to connect with other year levels across the Primary School.

Buddies Program

At Moama Anglican Grammar, Year 5 and Year 6 students are all involved in the popular Buddy Program. Students in Year 5 buddy up with students in Kindergarten, and students in Year 6 partner up with students in Year 1, allowing for a two-year cycle. Buddy programs in schools support a smooth transition for children starting school. They also foster a sense of community and belonging, promoting social skills, empathy and positive relationships between students of different ages while also supporting new students at our school.

"Last Friday, we visited our Buddies in 1A to share our websites with them. We split into small groups, with two to three Year 1 students paired with two to three Year 6 students. As part of our English project, we created websites about animals from Australia or Antarctica. Using Google Sites, we designed our pages and even added a fun quiz on Google Forms for the younger students to enjoy. Visiting our buddies was a great opportunity to share what we had learned while also helping them explore our websites by clicking through the pages and watching short videos.

To start, we got to know our buddies by asking simple questions, like "What's your favourite sport?" or "What do you enjoy most about Year 1 so far?" It was great to learn about their personalities and make new friends. After sharing our websites, we spent some time reading stories together, both one-on-one and in our small groups. Our buddies also showed us their favourite activities around the classroom, like drawing on the whiteboard, reading books or playing card games.

Before we knew it, our time was up, and we had to say goodbye. We are grateful for the chance to spend time with our buddies, and we cannot wait to see them again soon!"

Individual Student Achievement

We would like to congratulate Isabelle Barnett on placing second for discus at the recent Little Athletics State Track and Field Championships in Melbourne on 8-9 March.

Qualifying to compete at this state event is an amazing achievement and more information about the students who qualified and competed can be found on the 'Co-Curricular at MAG' page of this newsletter. We are very proud of Izzy for bringing home a silver medal!

Kinder Parent Reading Information Night and Workshops

At Moama Anglican Grammar, we recognise the valuable part parents play in helping their child learn to read. To help close the gap between reading at home and school, an information session and two practical workshops were held. We had a wonderful turnout for our Kindergarten Reading Information Night. The Kindergarten Team took parents through the theory behind our approach to teaching reading at school, and how this is supported by students completing their home readers each night.

This information session was followed up by the Kindergarten Reading Workshops on Thursday this week. At these workshops, the Kindergarten teachers introduced parents to the style of texts that their children would be taking home and walked them through how to use the various texts. The workshops also provided a practical demonstration through videos of how to support children when reading at home. Making the reading experience positive and enjoyable is key. We would like to thank all our families who were able to attend these sessions. Teaching your child to read is a job we share together.

Bringing Innovation to Life: Our New 3D Printer

We are excited to introduce our new 3D printer, a cutting-edge addition to our technology resources thanks to the NSW Space Discovery Program, run by MakerEmpire and the Australian Space Agency. This incredible tool is already inspiring our students in Years 3–6 as they explore design thinking, problem-solving and innovation in their IPT lessons. With access to MakerEmpire's design software, students are developing their own products and prototypes, applying critical questioning and continuous improvement to their creative ideas. Our Year 3 students recently visited the TAS building to see the 3D printer in action, an experience that sparked excitement and curiosity about the endless possibilities of this technology.

At Moama Anglican Grammar, we embrace learning experiences that promote a growth mindset and real-world application of STEM skills. This initiative not only supports our students in developing future-ready thinking but also encourages them to be innovators and problem solvers in an ever-evolving world. We can't wait to see what they create next!

Learn to Swim Program

Students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 4 participated in their annual Learn to Swim Program this week. School swimming and water safety programs give primary students in NSW schools the opportunity to learn vital swimming and water safety skills.

"This week, all the Year 1 students, Miss Kew, Mr Moon, Mrs Sly and Ms Pedrana came to the pool. We went on the bus. When we got ready, I was nervous but then I met my swim teacher. I was happy because my friends were in my group. I am in the Dolphin group and yesterday we went through a hoop underwater. It was so much fun with all my friends. I really like swimming."

"This week, the Year 1 students went swimming. Monday was a giant day for us as it was our first lesson. We did different activities like the torpedo, survival backstroke, freestyle and bubble, bubble breathe. We liked Freestyle and Torpedo the best."

"This week, we went to the Echuca Pool for an intensive Learn to Swim Program. We hopped on the bus to get there. I was in the Sharks group, and we mostly did survival backstroke and freestyle. I loved both strokes. The instructors were the best and made it so much fun."

Year 6 LifeChanger Incursion

On Tuesday 1 April, our Year 6 students will be involved in the LifeChanger Incursion: Understanding the Power of Emotions. This workshop helps students to recognise and manage their emotions effectively. Through interactive activities, students develop emotional awareness, resilience and strategies for responding to challenges in a positive way.

The Premier's Reading Challenge

The Premier's Reading Challenge is a program run by the New South Wales government. This Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students and enables them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge for each student to read more and engage with a greater variety of books. The students are expected to read a certain number of Challenge books and a selection of personal choice books. For more information, please visit https://online.education.nsw.gov.au/prc/rules.html

It is imperative that students who are interested in participating in this challenge sign up by seeing Ms Height before Monday 31 March. Students will receive new login details and a password. Unfortunately, previous log in details and passwords no longer work.

We invite parents, grandparents, carers and/or significant others to join us for our annual Easter Celebrations on Friday 4 April (last day of Term). We will start with an Easter Bonnet Parade on the Undercover Area (UCA) at 9:00 am and we encourage all students to get creative and come to school wearing their personalised Easter Bonnet. At the conclusion of the parade, parents are invited to join their kids for Easter craft activities in the classroom. We look forward to a great morning and the opportunity to connect with families.
