SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

Last Thursday, Miss Langfield and I had the privilege of attending St Xavier's School, Gunnedah, with our Confirmation candidate Jacob Carroll, to participate in their Confirmation Retreat. The Retreat allowed all Confirmation Candidates in the Parish to connect and make final preparations for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Fr Abmar spoke to the candidates about the importance of the Sacrament of Confirmation and explained the symbols of the Sacrament and the process that will take place during the Mass. He reassured the children to relax and embrace this special celebration. The Candidates also participated in Reconciliation with Fr Abmar and Fr Antony during the day.

We want to thank the staff and students at St Xavier's for inviting and welcoming us to this Retreat.

We celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday at St. Joseph's Parish, Gunnedah. The Sacrament of Confirmation is the second of the three sacraments of Christian initiation. Confirmation completes Baptism, by which we are confirmed with the fullness of the Holy Spirit in the laying on of hands and the anointing with Chrism Oil, which first happened at Baptism. During this Sacrament, we are reminded of our participation in the ministry and mission of Jesus and strengthened to follow Jesus more closely by enabling the Holy Spirit to be with us as we demonstrate the Gifts of the Holy Spirit through our actions - the Fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Jacob Carroll was confirmed on Sunday. He chose the patron Saint's name, St Nicholas of Myra, the Patron Saint of children, sailors, merchants, and many other groups.

The Sacred Heart community wishes to congratulate Jacob on becoming a full member of the Catholic Church.

PROJECT COMPASSION BOXES

Families are asked to return their Project Compassion boxes with any donations collected throughout Lent. Please return the boxes to the classroom teachers by Thursday, 10th April so that the money can be forwarded to Caritas Australia.
