CAREERS

This term, Careers has had something for every Stage, including post school students.
We have been working closely with University Of Newcastle (UoN); we provided training to prepare students for the real world and have had visitors to assist with how to start thinking about what to do after finishing school.
First though, we CONGRATULATE some of our school based trainees.

UNI STEPS
Year 8 Explored how quickly a rumour can travel among friends!
With thanks to the "Spreading Like Wildfire" a part of University of Newcastle Uni Steps Program!
25 of our Year 8 students took part in this exciting workshop here at school, led by guest presenter David. The session, challenged students to investigate:
How does one flame turn into a bushfire?
How does one rumour turn into a wave of gossip?
How does one virus turn into an epidemic?
Through hands-on activities and computer simulations, students explored the maths behind rapid spread. Not only testing how fast a rumour can spread but used technology to model the speed at which bushfires and diseases can escalate.
Year 9s Tackle their public speaking nerves
During week 6, Year 9 students stepped up their presentation game at Newcastle Uni’s Uni Steps – Presentation Skills Workshop!
The day kicked off with “Voting with Your Feet”, followed by a fun Me/You warm-up to build confidence in eye contact, movement, and speaking. Students then discovered breathing techniques to calm nerves before presenting, experimented with voice projection, and mastered body language strategies to command attention!
To top it off, they put their new skills to the test with Table Topics —where they had to think on their feet and put everything they learned into practice!
A big shout-out to these students for stepping outside their comfort zones and taking on the challenge. Who knows? We might have some future TED Talk speakers in the making!
🎓 Year 11 & 12 Students Take Part in Uni
Steps at Newcastle Uni! 🎓

Students enjoyed a luncheon while engaging with past alumni, gaining valuable insights into university life, career pathways, and study success. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to ask questions, build connections, and gain inspiration for their future studies.
A huge thank you to Newcastle Uni for hosting such an enriching experience! 👏✨
