Stories in the Dark 

Year 9 students are embarking on a creative journey in their Stories in the Dark unit. They will study a variety of texts, drawing inspiration from different styles and ideas to develop their own writing. Across the term, they will experiment with multiple forms of storytelling, building a writing portfolio that showcases their creativity and growth. They’re hustling – and we are very proud! 

HSIE

Australians at War (WWI) + ADF Care Package Drive 

This term, Year 9 students are learning all about World War I – why it happened, why Australians joined the fight, and what life was like on the front lines. We’ll also look at the experiences of women and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians during the war, and how the ANZAC legend became such a big part of our national story. They have just finished a source analysis task where they explored wartime propaganda and made a judgement about which posters were the most effective in persuading our troops to enlist.  WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP  To show support for today’s ADF members, we’re collecting items for care packages to be packed and sent in time for Anzac day.

Rocking Through Popular Music🎸🎶 

Year 9 Music students have been diving into the world of popular music, exploring different genres, iconic artists, and the key elements that make this style so influential. 

As they develop their instrumental and vocal skills, students are working towards an end-of-term performance, where they will showcase their talents and teamwork. With a focus on rehearsing, refining techniques, and building stage confidence, the excitement is building for what promises to be a fantastic musical showcase! 

We can’t wait to see them take the stage and bring their music to life!

Creativity in Action

Visual Arts students have been exploring the world of still life, experimenting with a variety of art materials to develop their technical skills and artistic expression. Through drawing, painting, and mixed media, they are learning how to capture form, texture, and composition in creative and unique ways.

Creativity in Focus

Visual Design students have been exploring the world of illustration, developing their drawing and storytelling skills through an exciting project—creating illustrations for children’s books. Through character design, composition, and vibrant colour choices, they are bringing stories to life while refining their artistic techniques. 

DANCE

 Stepping Through Time💃✨ 

Year 9 Dance students have been off to a fantastic start this term, successfully completing their first assessment task, which focused on developing their dance technique. Their dedication and effort have been evident as they refine their skills and performance abilities. 

Now, they have begun an exciting new unit—Dance Through Time, where they are exploring different historical dance styles. This unit is both challenging and fun, allowing students to experience how dance has evolved over the years while pushing their creativity and movement skills. 

YEAR 10

ENGLISH

Journeys 

Year 10 students are exploring the theme of Journeys through poetry. The students are engaging with all kinds of existential questions as they progress through this topic! By analysing a selection of poems, they will uncover the ways poets represent physical, emotional, and metaphorical journeys. Their study will culminate in a formal essay, giving them the opportunity to refine their analytical writing skills in preparation for senior English studies.

Rights and Freedoms 

Year 10 are starting the year with a really meaningful topic: Rights and Freedoms. They’ll learn about the fight for civil rights in Australia and around the world since 1945. This includes the Stolen Generations, the Day of Mourning, and how movements like the US civil rights movement inspired change here in Australia. Students will also look at how activism – both past and present – has helped shape the society we live in today.  

SCIENCE

Marine Studies – First Aid Skills 

Our Year 10 Marine Studies students have been diving into essential first aid skills, learning how to respond to emergencies both in and out of the water. They have practised CPR, mastered bandaging techniques for various injuries, and explored first aid treatments for common marine stings, such as those from jellyfish and stingrays. These vital skills will help them stay safe and assist others in marine environments, reinforcing their knowledge of responsible ocean safety. 

MUSIC

Small Ensembles and Performance Preparation🎶🎤 

Year 10 Music students have been exploring the dynamics of small ensembles, working collaboratively to prepare for an upcoming performance. They are developing their ensemble skills, learning how to harmonize, blend, and play off one another to create cohesive and engaging music. 

Alongside their ensemble work, students are also preparing for their Viva Voce, where they will discuss musical concepts, techniques, and performance processes. It’s an exciting time for our Year 10 musicians as they hone their skills both on stage and in theory! 🎵✨ 

VISUAL DESIGN

Skateboard Deck Creations 

Year 10 Visual Design students have been rolling into creativity with their latest project—custom skateboard deck designs! This exciting task allows students to explore graphic design, illustration, and colour theory while developing their own unique artistic style. 

Using a combination of traditional and digital techniques, students are experimenting with bold imagery, typography, and composition to create eye-catching designs that reflect their personal themes and influences. 

With each deck becoming a one-of-a-kind artwork, we can’t wait to see their finished pieces showcase their creativity and design skills! 🛹🎨✨

Art Movement

Year 10 Visual Arts students have been diving into art history, researching an art movement of their choice and preparing engaging presentations. This project encourages them to analyze artistic styles, key artists, and historical influences while enhancing their critical thinking and presentation skills. 

With so many creative projects underway, we look forward to seeing the incredible work our students will produce! 🎨📖✨
