Ms Brady - Years 7 & 10

Welcome back for what is going to be a fantastic 2025! We have already had a busy and productive start to the term in Year 7 and 10.

Year 7

Year 7 have settled in well and are successfully navigating high school life. Students have been learning the school expectations and norms and have grown in confidence in all classroom learning environments. Year 7 teachers have reported students are meeting expectations to a high standard and are already taking initiative with their learning.

Our annual Year 7 Camp excursion will be running in Term 2, Week 1. During the 3-day excursion students will engage in a wide range of activities which will test teamwork skills, resilience, moving out of their comfort zone, and provide time to build positive relationships as a year group. This fantastic excursion is not one to miss! Thanks to Mrs O’Halloran (Year Advisor) for her organisation, I’m sure everyone will have an amazing time.

Year 10

Year 10 have started the year on a positive note as they transition into their senior years of school, with many skill and work-based programs becoming available to them. They are working towards an important part of their schooling; their Record of Student Attainment (ROSA). This is the certificate students receive for completing Year 10 and lists all subjects and the respective grades they achieve. If assessment tasks and classwork are not completed in each subject, students may not receive a grade on their ROSA and instead have an N-Determination and face having to repeat Year 10. If students are having trouble with completing assessment tasks, they are encouraged to take initiative of their learning to seek support from their teachers or the learning and support team.

A reminder for all students and parents; students need to be in full school uniform all day, every day. As we get to the end of Term 1 it is a good time to get organised and purchase your winter uniform, especially those needing a new hoodie.

Finally, all students need to ensure they are READY to LEARN and in class EVERY LESSON, EVERY DAY, including a fully charged device, books and pens. If your student needs assistance in accessing uniform or equipment, please contact your student’s Year

Advisor,

Year 7 – Mrs O’Halloran

Year 10 – Mr Asvestas.

Have a great Easter Break and enjoy the Autumn vacation, stay safe and healthy, ready to get back into it for Term 2.

Ms Somerville - Years 8 & 11

As we reach the end of term 1, its hard to believe that we are already a quarter of the way through the year! This term has flown and I have spent a lot of it in classrooms watching students take up the learning opportunities .

We all know that active participation in classroom activities helps develop a student’s understanding and knowledge. Encouraging students to listen, ask questions and contribute to class discussions helps develop critical thinking and problem solving skills as well as prepares them for their assessments. A classroom where students are engaged creates an energetic and collaborative learning environment for everyone and I have certainly witnessed this in classrooms this term. By being in Year 8 lessons this term I have also brushed up on my own skills from converting decimals to percentages to fractions in Maths, learning about the different type of energy in Science and of course looking at language and characters in a range of English novels. I think I have been just as engaged in this learning as the students. I am eagerly awaiting the cornflake cookies from the technology classes but none have found their way to my desk just yet!

Year 11 have also started their journey to the HSC with having completed one third of the Year 11 course content already. Students are starting to realise that attending every day and completing assessments on time is an important part of their academic success. Regular practice and effort reinforces understanding, builds effective study habits and allow teachers to provide valuable feedback. Students who consistently complete their work gain confidence in their abilities and develop a strong understanding of the skills they are ultimately going to be assessed on in their HSC. Year 11 is also an important year as many students wishing to apply for university next year will be encouraged to apply for early entry and a part of that process is based on their Year 11 results.  With this is mind It is crucial for parents to communicate with the classroom teacher if students are struggling with coursework. Teachers can provide additional resources, support, and tailored instruction to help students overcome challenges. You can also encourage students to use the Study Centre or to stay at school on early leave days inorder to get the clarification and support they need.

As we move into the Easter holidays, I hope you have a restful time over the break and have the chance to spend time with family and friends

Mr Brown - Years 9 & 12

What a great start to the school year! We are excited to have your children back with us and have a year ahead filled with learning, growth, and new opportunities.

As we kick off the year, we want to take a moment to outline some key expectations that will help support our students in achieving their best:

  1. Attendance: Regular attendance is essential for academic success. We encourage you to ensure your child is present and engaged in their classes each day.
  2. Completion of Classwork: We ask for your support in encouraging your child to complete all classwork and assignments on time. This not only aids their understanding of the material but also helps cultivate good study habits.
  3. Respect for Everyone: A respectful school environment is vital for all students. Please talk with your child about the importance of treating peers and staff with kindness and respect.
  4. Following Instructions: It is important for students to listen to and follow the instructions given by their teachers. This helps maintain a constructive learning atmosphere and allows every student to succeed.

We are particularly excited for our Year 9 students who will be experiencing electives for the first time, and for our Year 12 students who are entering their final three terms of high school. These are significant milestones, and we look forward to supporting all our students as they navigate these important phases of their education.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we can make this year a successful and rewarding experience for all our students.

Ms Wilson - Incusion & Support

What a massive start we have had to 2025. It’s great to see so many engaged students across the school taking up the many opportunities and activities that are offered at KKHS.

Our support faculty Kuta-kaya has grown to a massive 10 classes this year and we welcome our new students and families. The 10th support class is Murramarr.

We also welcome Ms Dianne Hooper as a permanent support class teacher on Wuwing and congratulate Ms Katie Wesley who was successful at merit on gaining the other permanent support class teacher position.

It is great to see so many students take pride in making sure they attend school every day and engage in their learning. Please remember the more days a student has away from school, the higher the impact on their sense of belonging and engagement and future choices.

KKHS celebrates 100% weekly attendance with a canteen voucher draw for one student in each year group every Friday for lunch 2. This is a great incentive for students to be at school every day, in class and engaged in their learning. Keep an eye on our socials for the list of weekly winners.

ABSENCE EXPLANATIONS – Please make sure all absences are explained within 7 days. This is easy by emailing, phoning or replying to the absence text.

MOBILE PHONES are banned from all NSW schools. At KKHS, there is an expectation that when a student enters the school grounds their phones will be off and locked in their Yondr pouch. We are asking parents and carers to please support us with this.

As the term draws to a close, we would like to thank our parents, carers and community for their partnership and support of our students.
