Principal's Message

Mr Alan Hope

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to another exciting year with a special warm welcome to our new Year 7 students and their families who are joining our school community for the first time. It has been wonderful to see our newest students settle in so quickly and begin to embrace all that the school has to offer including Science labs, Woodwork rooms and a range of high school subjects.

As we get into the rhythm of Term 1, I want to take a moment to highlight the importance of regular school attendance. Every day at school counts, and consistent attendance plays a key role in student learning and success. If your child is absent, we ask that you please respond to our SMS system promptly with a brief explanation. This helps us ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, and keeps our records accurate. We aim to have all of our students attending school over 90% of the time and have a range of activities and initiatives in place to celebrate positive attendance.

With the cooler months approaching, it's also a good time to remind families about our school uniform expectations. Wearing the

correct uniform helps build a sense of belonging and pride. We have a range of winter uniform options available including track pants, school jumpers, and our school jacket—which offers a warm and waterproof option. The jacket is available through the school office with all other items available from Flanagans in Cessnock.

We’re proud to share that our recent Wellbeing Week was a great success! Students engaged in a wide range of activities and programs designed to support mental health, social connection, and resilience. Pairing this with our S.P.O.R.T. squad selections and our fortnightly extra curricular periods have ensured a really positive start to the school year for so many students who are able to engage with a range of activities and hopefully discover some new hobbies.

To stay up to date with the many great things happening across the school, be sure to follow our official social media channels. From classroom highlights to student achievements, excursions, and upcoming events, our online platforms are a great way to stay connected and celebrate our vibrant school community.

At the centre of our work in the class room this year will be a continued focus on learning through explicit teaching. Our teachers are engaging in regular professional learning into this academic research and are committed to delivering clear and structured lessons that support every student to grow in confidence and succeed academically. We are excited to see the progress students make this year as we work together to support their learning journey.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We look forward to a successful year ahead.
