JAECG Leading the Way in Culture and Community

This term has been another exciting and successful one for our Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (JAECG), with students actively engaging in leadership, cultural experiences, and community outreach.

Inspiring Young Leaders

Kurri Kurri High School was proud to host the Term 1 JAECG/AECG Leadership Day at Kurri Kurri Bowling Club. With excellent feedback from attendees, the event brought together

students from approximately 15 primary schools and three high schools. This day provided a valuable opportunity for young Aboriginal leaders to connect, develop leadership skills, and celebrate culture.

Bangarra Dance Theatre Workshop

A group of 20 students had the incredible opportunity to attend a workshop with the renowned Bangarra Dance Theatre. The experience was not only inspiring but also a significant achievement for Year 11 student Brock McDonald, who was invited to audition for the NSW Public Schools State Aboriginal Dance Company. We wish Brock the best of luck on this exciting journey!  The following video tells the student perspective of getting to work with Bangarra:

Connecting with Early Learners

Our JAECG students have begun their regular daycare visits, with two planned each term. The first visit was a fantastic experience, where our students taught preschool children about Aboriginal symbols through engaging, hands-on sensory activities. These visits continue to strengthen community connections and foster cultural learning from a young age.

Harmony Day

The Aboriginal Dance Group kickstarted a week of Wellbeing and Harmony, be sure to watch their performance below.

Their dedication to sharing culture through dance continues to be a highlight of school and community events.

As always, our JAECG students have shown outstanding leadership and commitment, making a meaningful impact both within our school and beyond. We look forward to another term of cultural pride and achievement!
