Monash Council Chambers:

Student Reflections

Tony:

On Wednesday ,7th of May, Thinu, Charlotte, Rapha, Elisha, and I went to the Monash Council Chambers in Glen Waverley. We were joined by other schools around Monash, some who have already been to Monash Chambers before.

We did a series of fun activities including drawing our thoughts of a future Youth Centre, a chart of what we would like to see more of in Monash, and also a morning tea with muffins, and a variety of fruit.

Overall, I was really glad to be included in this event, and it was a great experience to explore the Monash Chambers.

Elisha:

On the 6th of May, Raphaella, Charlotte, Tony, Thinu and myself went to the Monash Council to discuss additions we could add to the area. When we arrived, we were greeted and headed into a large room with a few rows of chairs for us to be seated in. When we were seated, some people talked to us about what we were going to do. After that, we had an initial activity and then we ate some food. Soon after our little break, we did some more activities and for our last one, we voted in a ballat. In the ballat, we voted on what we wanted in the Monash area. Lastly, we received an award and left. In the end, I really enjoyed our experience and I hope I get to go there again!

Rapha:

On Wednesday 7th of May some of the students in Year 5/6 got the privilege to attend the Monash city council. Some of those students include Elisha, Charlotte, Tony, Thinu and myself.

We took part in a lot of discussions as well as activities like designing and questioning. I really liked when we took part in the designing because we got to add whatever we wanted in the community we were designing.

Overall we mainly discussed how they wanted primary school students to take part and share their ideas so they could try to add some of our ideas into their future plan.

Charlotte:

On the 7th of May I went to the Monash Council Chambers (with Rafa, Elisha, Tony and Thinu). We were there to suggest ideas, give insight as to what we wanted to see in our council and give feedback.

First they talked about what the children that came last year said and we had to put them into different categories according to what they would do to help the community. Then we had morning tea which was muffins and fruit. They talked a bit about what they wanted to do to help the community.

They then gave us a neon vest and officially became project managers. We told them things like what we like to do and where we like to go then we got to sit in big leather chairs and- similar to voting in an election for the prime minister, we got to fill out ballot papers on what we liked, valued and wanted.

Then we got to design buildings and ask some questions. Overall I think it was really fun and I loved it!

Thinu:

On the 7th of May, Raphaella, Charlotte, Elisha, Tony and Myself ( Thinu ) got selected to head over to the Monash Council.

We got chosen because every month, the Council has a meeting to ask students from some schools to help make decisions to make Monash better.

We went through many meetings and did many activities which were really well presented.
