This term NBC’s Performing Arts team have been focusing on Drama, especially the different elements of it such as settings, characters, voice, movement, space and time.
Each campus has provided different learning experiences to enrich the various cohorts of students.
On the Wexford Campus students have been busy working with puppets, devising characters, and writing collaborative scripts, all in hopes of finishing of the term strong by preforming their very own puppet shows in front of an audience of their peers.

It has been an exciting start to the combined Year 11 & 12 VCE Drama. The students hit the ground running beginning work on their devised ensemble performances. They were presented with three different performance structures focussed on ‘Jack the Ripper’, ‘The Black Death’ and ‘Pandora’s Box’. Student’s chose their preferred stimulus and formed two groups. One is exploring Jack the Ripper and applying the performance styles of Silent Film and Comedy, which will surely result in an interesting interpretation of a dark stimuli. The other chose Pandora’s Box, the Classical Greek myth, and are exploring aspects of the seven deadly sins in conjunction with it.
It is exciting work that has been coupled with the opportunity to see Dear Evan Hanson and Top Class Drama – some of the best solo performance exams from 2024 – this term.
In Visual Arts, students across the four P-8 campuses have been working with clay. Each year level has built upon their hand building skills focusing on various techniques. Prep students have practiced rolling, pinching and mark making. Year 1-2’s have created shape sculptures and pinch pots. Year 3-4’s have explored simple slab building through designing and creating “funky fish”, while our 5-8 students have created more complex slab vessels, using techniques like sgraffito.
On the whole, most students have really enjoyed working with the medium, enjoying how tactile it is. Many students have stated that clay is their favourite material to use in Visual Arts.
Clay makes me feel calm. If I make a mistake, I can just roll it out and start again. I feel like I can be really creative when I use it - Maddie (yr 7)
I can’t explain why I like working with clay..but I just feel I can focus really well and I just feel good when I use it.- Joel (yr 8)
Our Term 1 program started of with great enthusiasm, with programs sitting at capacity.
Programs from many different learning areas are included in the Extended School Day and is provided free of charge to our students, which is a most wonderful opportunity for all of our students. It is an opportunity for our students to learn new skills, mix with other students from other campuses and enjoy doing activities they love.
