What is an Individual Education Plan?
An Individual Education Plan (IEP) outlines clear learning goals tailored to an individual student. These goals are developed collaboratively by the classroom teacher and the student, fostering student voice and encouraging active participation in their own learning. This process is strengths-based, focusing on the student's potential to achieve positive educational outcomes. By setting achievable goals and implementing clear strategies, the IEP supports students in becoming independent learners and experiencing success.
An IEP will have 2 long term goals that the student works towards for 6-12 months. The short term goal should be achievable in one term and is structured so it captures when and how the student will practice this goal.
See below for an example:

In Term 1, our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) classes have been focused on equipping students with valuable skills to manage life's challenges. We have explored stress management techniques, helping students recognize and address their stressors in healthy ways. Through lessons on positive coping strategies, students have learned how to navigate difficult emotions with resilience and confidence. Additionally, we’ve worked on problem-solving skills, encouraging creative thinking and collaboration to tackle challenges effectively. These lessons aim to support our students in developing strong emotional awareness and practical tools that will benefit them both inside and outside the classroom.
We have been learning about gratitude and what it means. My favourite entry so far is writing about what helps me get to the green zone – I need lots of cold water and a calm environment - Kalyndall 1/2
We get to learn about our emotions now and as we get older. Looking at some skills and strategies to help ourselves feel better – a favourite of mine is mindfulness colouring as it calms my body down - Chase 5/6
Looking ahead to Term 2, our focus will shift towards emotional literacy and promoting cyber safety. Students will explore how to identify, understand, and express their emotions in healthy ways, helping them build stronger relationships and self-awareness. In addition, we will engage students in discussions around cyber safety, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world responsibly and safely.
