Foundation/Grade 1

Maths

The Foundation students have been learning about measurement. This week we looked at mass and how we can compare the weight of objects through using balance scales. The students investigated and compared different classroom objects and described their findings.

The Grade 1 students have been looking at patterns, specifically number patterns. They have been learning skip counting patterns including 2s, 5s and 10s. They have been pairing up to play a game called number snake where they take turns flipping over cards from a deck to put numbers in order. The Grade 1 students had to first make their cards, dividing two pages into eighths and writing numbers 2-32. Their cards have been used to play against each other and see who can place all the numbers in order first.

Grade 2

Book Week

We had such a fun week! On Monday, we joined the Grade 2 students with Foundation, Grade 1, the local Kinder and the Early Learning kids to enjoy a performance by The Blurbs. The performance included reenactments of different stories like Truck Cat, Noah Dreary, and Two Turtles. There were songs and dancing that we could get up and have fun with. There were lots of laughs during the adults Vs kids challenges where the kids were the winners!

We listened to lots of the books across the week that were either nominated or had won awards as part of the CBCA awards. One text we read was One Little Dung Beetle by Rhian Williams. After reading the text the F/1/2 students created their own beetles and also made Spiders from the picture story book SPIRO by Anna Mc Gregor.

To finish the week, everyone dressed up and participated in our whole school parade. The students loved sharing their characters with the class and enjoyed looking for other characters they know from texts.

Grade 3/4

The Middle unit have had a busy couple of weeks. Last week we went to the Bendigo Discovery Centre, Waranga Athletics, and of course last week was Book Week

Waranga Sports

Our Grade 3 and 4 students had a fantastic time at the Waranga Athletics in Kyabram. It was wonderful to see everyone giving their best effort, showing great sportsmanship, and cheering each other on throughout the day. Students competed in a range of track and field events, representing our school with pride and enthusiasm. We are so proud of their participation and the way they supported one another. A big thank you to all the staff who helped make the day such a success! Well done to everyone involved – what a great day of fun, fitness, and friendly competition.

In Maths, we are busy learning about angles. Students particularly enjoy the hands-on units! We have been working hard to learn the difference between acute, right, obtuse, straight, reflex and revolution.

TRP/RRRR

This term in TRP/RRRR, our Grade 3 and 4 students have been learning about empathy and its role in building positive communities. We have explored questions such as What does empathy look, sound, and feel like? and Which communities am I a part of? Students have reflected on how they can make a difference in these communities. We also introduced the idea of generous assumptions - considering the best intentions in others. Students discussed how generous assumptions can strengthen friendships and help us better understand one another. In addition, students have been learning about mindfulness and the brain. They explored the concepts of inside and outside noise, reflected on the fight, flight, freeze response, and practiced calming strategies such as walking meditation.

Grade 5/6

Waranga Senior Sports Day

Our Grade 5/6 students have had a busy and exciting few weeks, highlighted by their fantastic participation in the Waranga Senior Sports Day in Kyabram. The children were brilliant – showing courage, enthusiasm, and wonderful behaviour throughout the day. They gave their very best in every event and represented our school with pride. A special congratulations to Darcie and Evie (and Hunter in grade 3) who went on to compete at the next level in the long jump and 800m. Both girls delivered outstanding performances and were rewarded with ribbons for their efforts – well done!

Book Week

Our Grade 5/6 students had a fantastic time celebrating Book Week! The children looked incredible in their creative costumes and loved stepping into character as their favourite book heroes and heroines. It was a joy to see the way they encouraged and supported one another during the parade, showing both confidence and kindness as they cheered for their peers.

As a follow-up, students brought Spiro the Spider (one of this year’s shortlisted stories) to life by making their own spiders. This craft activity was filled with fun and creativity, making the day even more memorable. Book Week was a wonderful showcase of stories, imagination, and school spirit – and our students enjoyed every moment!
