Spotlight on Learning - Bottlebrush Pod

In Bottlebrush Pod, students have been exploring the fascinating world of archetypes and fairytales, uncovering the timeless characters and themes that shape stories across cultures. Through reading and creative activities, they have identified common archetypes, such as heroes, villains, and mentors, and learned how these elements make stories meaningful and engaging. This learning has not only enhanced their understanding of literature but also encouraged them to think critically about the art of storytelling. We are excited to see their enthusiasm for reading, writing and creativity grow as they continue to explore these classic narratives.
Writing
To support our students in becoming confident writers, we utilised rubric roundabouts as an interactive way to deepen their understanding of what it takes to be successful in their writing. This collaborative process allowed students to engage with clear criteria for writing quality, reflect on their own work, and provide constructive feedback to their peers. By moving through different stations focused on key writing elements, students gained valuable insights into how to improve their stories, with a focus on aspects such as character development, vocabulary, and structure. This process empowered them to take ownership of their learning and strive for excellence in their writing.
Math
Across the Bottlebrush pod, students have been sharpening their understanding of angles through engaging maths games. By exploring different types of angles such as acute, obtuse, and right angles students have developed their ability to accurately identify and measure angles. Students have also been developing their critical and creative thinking skills whilst using their learnt knowledge of measurement to design aquatic centres. These activities have encouraged teamwork and problem-solving, helping students to apply their skills in real-world contexts while building confidence in their mathematical abilities.
Dodgeball and SISA
Bottlebrush pod has shown a love for dodgeball and SISA this term, with students eagerly participating in games that promote teamwork, strategy, and physical activity. Dodgeball, along with SISA sessions, has become a favourite way for students to build friendships, develop coordination, and enjoy some healthy competition during sports. Their enthusiasm and sportsmanship shine through as they encourage one another and celebrate each other's successes.
Celebration of Learning
We would like to extend our gratitude to all the parents who joined us for our recent Celebration of Learning. It was wonderful to see families come together to explore the projects students had been working on. Your support and enthusiasm made the event truly special, as students proudly shared their creativity and knowledge across areas of passion and interest.
