STAGE 3 NEWS

Stage 3 has been incredibly busy over the past few weeks as we dedicated time to practising and performing our ACOS Dance.  We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Miss Randall and Mrs Townsend, who put in a tremendous amount of effort to prepare us for what turned out to be a spectacular performance.  Every student performed brilliantly, and we truly enjoyed the opportunity to showcase our school and community spirit through this wonderful event.  Their hard work and dedication were evident in every aspect of the performance.  Additionally, we would like to express our gratitude to Mrs Clendinning for her guidance with the choir.  The massed choir performance at the end was a real highlight, and we’re sure everyone appreciated the beautiful harmonies and teamwork.

In the classroom, we have continued to focus on our mathematics learning, with a particular emphasis on multiplication and division.  While many students have made great progress, some are still working on mastering their times tables.  We encourage all students to develop this essential skill, as it makes many other areas of maths much more accessible and enjoyable.  Beyond multiplication and division, we have been exploring concepts related to geometry, including calculating the area of both regular and irregular shapes.  We have also been learning how to identify and name different types of triangles, as well as understanding the special transformations and transitions that shapes can undergo.

Our literacy program has been enriched by our ongoing study of the novel Blueback. Through reading the chapters, we have engaged in various comprehension activities that have helped deepen our understanding of the story.  This novel has introduced us to a wide range of new vocabulary words, which we are now incorporating into our writing and speaking.  Some of these words include scoffing, jangled, vicious, agitate, hoisting, wisteria, sluggish, wither, entrepreneur, developers, lugger, sanctuary, and biologist, among others. Expanding our vocabulary in this way strengthens our overall literacy skills.

In writing, we are diligently working on crafting persuasive texts.  Using the Seven Steps to Writing Success program, we are learning techniques to make our writing more compelling and effective.  We are excited to share these persuasive pieces once they are completed, and we look forward to showcasing the creativity and critical thinking skills of our Stage 3 students.

On Mondays in Stage 3 we are focusing on a combined Science and Geography unit of work. Students have chosen topics of interest to them around sustainability and how they can play an active part in working towards solutions to identified issues.  Some topics chosen by the students have included air pollution, sea pollution, biodiversity, habitat loss and overfishing. Students have been discussing what it is to be a global citizen and what this can look like for them.  They have been developing their own ideas on how they can have a positive impact on an individual level, as a part of a community and further into our broader community.

Stage 3 had an exciting and creative day exploring the fascinating world of insects, lizards, and ants through art. Students experimented with a variety of mediums to bring their ideas to life, including vibrant paint pens, delicate watercolours, and an assortment of materials to construct detailed 3D models. This hands-on experience allowed them to develop their artistic skills while deepening their understanding of these intriguing creatures, combining creativity with learning in a fun and engaging way.

Stage 3 really enjoyed their gymnastics sessions.  Attached are photographs of the students who completed the ultimate challenge and rang the bell.
