From the Assistant Principal's Desk (Heights Campus)

At Springvale Rise Primary, we are proud to offer a vibrant specialist program that gives students the opportunity to learn in areas beyond their classroom subjects. Our specialist classes include Vietnamese (LOTE), Sport, Art, and Environmental Science. These are subjects are run by our wonderful specialist teachers, who carefully plan lessons in line with the Victorian Curriculum to ensure students develop key skills and knowledge in each area.

Recently in Art, students have been building their textile skills, with SLC students designing and creating an object for their sewing project. Some students made a mini-cushion, others designed little chicken beanbag decorations, the results were very impressive.

In Vietnamese lessons, senior students have been busy writing short scripts for a restaurant role play, practising how to ask questions and express their needs and wants in a real-life context. Environmental Science has seen students across the school germinating seeds and developing their own mini gardens, learning how to nurture plants and understand growth cycles. Meanwhile, in Sport, students are building their ball-handling skills and learning how to use game tactics effectively in team play.

Alongside these specialist subjects, our Whole-School Swimming Program has been running over the past two weeks. Learning to swim is a vital life skill, and the program gives students the confidence to be safe around water while also building their fitness and coordination. It has been wonderful to see students fully engaged in their lessons, enjoying the experience, and celebrating the progress they are making as they develop new swimming skills.

These specialist classes and programs give our students the chance to explore their creativity, strengthen their physical skills, connect with other cultures, and learn more about the world around them. Importantly, students are having fun while developing new skills that will stay with them for life.
