Arts

In Prep this term we have been looking at different ways we can use paper in construction. The students created a 3D model using different techniques. We will read two shortlisted books,“One Little Dung Beetle” and “A leaf called Greaf” and respond to these with art activities. Students will get the opportunity to explore modelling materials.

In Year One and Two, we also looked at different ways we can use paper in construction. The students also created a 3D model using different paper construction techniques. They have also had the opportunity to practise their weaving skills by creating a flower using wool and a paper plate. We will read two shortlisted books,“Don’t worry, Felix” and “Those long lost things” and respond to these with art.

In Year Three and Four, we have started every lesson with a performing arts game which the students really look forward to. They have created their own loom using popsicle sticks and elastic bands and woven wool. We revisited the art work of Romero Britto and discussed the patterns and colours that he uses. The students then created their own piece of art work , inspired by Romero Britto’s artwork around hearts. We will read two shortlisted books,“Spiro” and “The Garden of Broken Things” as part of Book Week celebrations and respond to these with art.

In Years Five and Six, our main focus has been rehearsals for our school production. The students have been focusing on learning their lines, using the stage directions in their script, voice projection and expression as well as working with props. Some students have also been learning the skills of being a backstage person, reading the script, knowing which props are in which scene and moving props on and off the stage quickly. Year 5/6 W have been my prop department, working on props in their stand alone Art lesson.
