PREP AA

Hello families,

We have had such an amazing term of growth so far, we are all feeling settled back into routine and we have made strong friendships that are in the classroom and outside.

Literacy:

We are continuing stage five of Little Learners Love Literacy! We have been continuing to focus on multiple syllables and how we can use strategies to help us stretch and blend these words when we are reading/spelling.

We have been working on building our knowledge of stage five heart words and being able to read and write these quicker to ease reading for us.

In our "Everyone's an author" narrative writing, I have seen our students imagination, creativity and confidence blossom with writing sounds that they can hear, how to write a sentence using a capital letter, gaps in between our words and finishing with punctuation. We have been talking  about punctuation and when to use it in our sentences, it is amazing what our little ones can do in such little time!

Numeracy:

Gus the plus and linus the minus!

We have continued strengthening our number skills, we have been working on subtraction and using hands on materials. Students have been working on their number sense by using counting on, counting back, one more, one less, halves and friends of ten. We have been practicing these to make addition and subtraction easier! We have also been starting to skip count by 2's, 5's and 10's this week at the beginning of our lesson and moving while we do it to keep our brains and bodies engaged!

Grandparents day:

It was a pleasure to have all of our wonderful grandparents in the Prep room, we absolutely loved playing and creating with all of you and showcasing our classroom!

Book Week Parade:

I am so proud of our students for loving books as much as I do and coming in with books that make them happy. We enjoyed reading these as a class and learning more about each others interests. Thank you to all of the lovely parents for working so hard on costumes and fostering a love of reading!

School Disco:

We had an absolute ball at the disco, dance moves were amazing  and I loved seeing everyone showing off their skills!  A huge thank you to all the wonderful parents who helped out to set up and make it an amazing event.

This will be my last newsletter of the term. I will send through lots of photos and update you all on my adventures! Hoping you all have a beautiful safe and restful school holidays!

Reading:

We are continuing to work on our reading comprehension within our reading groups. The introduction of guided reading for the students has come with a lot of excitement to showcase their reading skills to their peers. We have enjoyed seeing students encouraging and supporting each other during this process.

Over the next two weeks we will be engaging in Indigenous books to link our humanities and reading skills together. Students have been exploring different indigenous communities around Australia and have been able to compare and contrast their lives.

Writing:

This week we are finishing our ‘Fantastical Journeys’ narratives! A huge congratulations to all of our students who have worked hard to draft, edit and publish their stories. We know that writing can sometimes be tricky but we’re so proud of the creativity and motivation you all have shown!

Numeracy:

In Math's, we have been exploring doubles and halves. Students used a variety of hands-on games and activities to practise their skills, making learning both fun and engaging. Through play, they discovered different ways to show doubles and share objects into halves, helping to build a strong foundation for their number knowledge.

Grandparents day:

We loved welcoming grandparents into our classrooms for our Grandparents Day afternoon. The students were happy and excited to share what they have been learning this term and enjoyed showing their work with pride. Many also took their grandparents to the Book Fair, making it a memorable afternoon of learning, laughter, and special family moments.

Book week:

What an incredible week we’ve had celebrating Book Week 2025! Thank you to all the parents and friends for putting in the time and effort to create such incredible costumes for our students. The pride and excitement the students had showing off their costumes created a special opportunity to celebrate everyone within the community.
