Annual Photo Competition
The annual photo competition is now open to all boarders in Years Seven to Eleven. Please encourage your child to take photos over the holidays and enter them in the competition, by emailing them to boarding@gsg.wa.edu.au
Boarders can enter up to four photos of landscapes, iconic places, people and characters. The winners will be celebrated at the Christmas dinner towards the end of Term Four.
Strength & Conditioning
GSG is excited to offer an opportunity to attend a Strength and Conditioning programme during Term Four.
This programme is designed to improve general muscle strength, muscle endurance, core stability and agility. The aim is for students to improve their own capabilities and is not a competitive environment. The programme is aimed at whole athlete physical development rather than being sport specific. We hope to educate students on how to exercise in a fun way using minimal equipment so that this is sustainable at home.
Who: students from Years Four to Twelve
When: Term Four on Tuesdays
Times: 3.30pm to 4.00pm
Commencing: Tuesday 14 October (Week One)
Register: To register to attend, please complete here by Wednesday 24 September.
Any enquires can be forwarded to caroline.cameron@gsg.wa.edu.au.
R U OK? Day
On Thursday 11 September we acknowledged RUOK day, both in boarding and at school. This is a day that reminds everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with life. You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener.
Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life:
- Ask R U OK?
- Listen
- Encourage action
- Check in
Our amazing catering team provided the staff morning tea and boarders afternoon tea with yellow cupcakes. Boarders were also provided a little treat of Kit Kats and a choice of hot chocolate or cappuccino sticks.
Farewell
It is with a heavy heart, I write my final Boarding Buzz - number 83 (hard to believe it's been that many!). After more than 15 years at Great Southern Grammar, I’ll be stepping away to begin a new chapter in health care administration.
My journey at GSG began in 2010, thanks to my sister who spotted a job share opportunity in Secondary Administration advertised in The Anchor. At the time, I wasn’t actively seeking work, but since I was only employed part-time, I decided to apply - and the rest, as they say, is history.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working across Secondary, Sport, and Music before finding my home in Boarding. For the past 12 years, I’ve genuinely loved every moment in this role.
I’ve been fortunate to work alongside incredible colleagues, support countless amazing students, and build lasting relationships with our boarding families. There are so many highlights I’ll carry with me, and I’ll deeply miss every aspect of the Boarding Admin role. I’m especially proud of my involvement with Yalari, the many events I’ve helped organise - particularly the Year Twelve Farewell dinners, which hold a special place on the boarding calendar - and the support I’ve provided to staff across all areas: cleaning, dining, transport, supervisors, Gap Assistants, Heads of House, and most importantly, the students.
My final day at GSG will be Friday 24 October, Week Two of Term Four.
I leave with immense gratitude and a heart full of memories. I’ll continue to support the school and boarding in spirit, and I wish everyone at GSG all the very best moving forward. It’s truly been an honour to hold this position for so long.
