Good Afternoon Parents Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,
As we continue to progress through the year, I want to take a moment to update you on a few key happenings and upcoming events at Derinya Primary School. We have many exciting activities in the pipeline, and as always, your support and involvement are greatly appreciated.
Parent Opinion Survey – Your Feedback Matters
At Derinya, we truly value the feedback from our families, as it plays an essential role in shaping the direction of our school. The department administers three important surveys each year: the Attitudes to School Survey for Years 4–6 students, the Staff Opinion Survey, and the Parent Opinion Survey. Currently, 30% of our families have engaged in the Parent Opinion Survey, but we would love to hear from a broader range of voices. Your responses help us identify areas for improvement as we plan for the future. If you have not yet had the chance to complete the survey, please take a moment to do so. It will only take a few minutes, and your input is invaluable as we continue to enhance the educational experience for our students. R U OK? Day – Friday 12th September
Next week, we will be participating in R U OK? Day on Friday, 12th September. This is an important day for promoting mental health awareness and encouraging open, supportive conversations within our school community. We encourage everyone to take a moment to check in with others, whether they are family, friends, or classmates. By fostering a culture of care, we can ensure that no one feels isolated. We look forward to seeing students and staff involved in this meaningful event. Please support your child/ren to wear a splash of yellow to acknowledge this important message.
Japanese Speaking Contest – Good Luck!
We would like to extend our best wishes to all the students who will be participating in the Japanese Speaking Contest on Friday evening. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their language skills and cultural knowledge, and we couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and dedication. Good luck to all our talented participants—we are cheering you on!
Child Safety Reminders
A quick reminder to all families regarding onsite supervision. Please ensure that students are not on the school grounds before the designated supervision times and are picked up promptly at the end of the school day. Our teachers and staff are committed to providing a safe environment for our students, and we appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain this. The yard is supervised from 8:50am until 3:45pm daily. Outside of these hours please contact Their Care, our before and after school care provider.
In the instance that a concern has been raised by your child regarding another student, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Please note that parents/family members are not permitted to address students from other families on school grounds. Your assistance with this is appreciated.

Market Day – Well Done, Year 6!
Congratulations to our Year 6 students for their outstanding efforts in organizing the recent Market Day. This event was a great success, with students demonstrating entrepreneurial skills, teamwork and creativity.
Year 1 Excursion – Moonlit Sanctuary
On Wednesday, our Year 1 students participated in an exciting excursion to the Moonlit Sanctuary. This trip is part of their learning about Australian animals, their habitats, diets and what makes them unique. A wonderful time was had by all. Many thanks to the teachers and parents who went along to assist.
Junior Production
A huge shoutout to all our young performers preparing for their upcoming Junior Production! The students have been working tirelessly, and the big day is fast approaching. The performance will be held on Monday in the school stadium with a matinee show at 12pm and an evening performance at 6pm. We wish all our talented young performers the very best of luck—Chookas! We can’t wait to see you shine on stage!
Father’s/Special Person’s Day
Wishing all of our wonderful Derinya Dad’s and special people in our children’s lives a very Happy Father’s Day for this coming Sunday. Many thanks to our wonderful Community Connect team of volunteers who made the arrangements for our stall and supported the children to purchase their gifts.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to create a vibrant and positive learning environment at Derinya.
Kind Regards,
Nadine Pye on behalf of the Derinya Team
