Grade 2/3

Literacy.

We are now diving into the hilarious and imaginative novel George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. Students have been thoroughly enjoying George’s mischievous adventures and exploring the wild world of his magical medicine.

As part of our learning, students have been focusing on alliteration and used this technique to invent their very own amazing antidotes for George’s medicine. Their creativity has been fantastic, with concoctions featuring crazy ingredients such as skull hearts and unicorn farts!

Students have also loved the opportunity to publish their work on computers. Through this process, they have been developing their typing and editing skills while taking great pride in presenting their finished antidotes. It has been wonderful to see students combining humour, imagination, and language features with growing digital literacy skills.

Numeracy:

In Numeracy, students have been working hard and building confidence across a range of areas. Each day we continue to practise the fluency of our 2, 3, 4, and 5 times tables. Students are becoming quicker and more accurate with recalling multiplication facts, which is helping them apply their knowledge to problem-solving activities.

We have also been consolidating our addition and subtraction strategies, with a focus on choosing efficient methods and explaining our mathematical thinking. This has supported students to strengthen their number sense and accuracy in solving problems.

Alongside this, students have been consolidating their understanding of division, with a particular focus on dividing by 10 and 5. They have been working on using fact families to connect multiplication and division, and applying this knowledge to solve practical problems.

In Geometry, students have been examining the features of 2D shapes, with a particular focus on quadrilaterals. They have explored the properties of these shapes, compared similarities and differences, and applied their knowledge through hands-on activities.

It has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm students are showing as they develop their numeracy skills and apply them in creative and meaningful ways.

Enjoy the holidays!!
