District Athletics

'Unbelievable' is the most appropriate word I can think of.

Eight students winning through to Divisional Competition in the first week back in Term Four. Two students winning through in two events giving representation in total across 10 events.

My tip is, based on a pro rata calculation of total school enrolments, Bittern Primary School would have the largest representation going further out of all other district schools.

A huge congratulations to those following who have qualified for next level. Keep on training over the holidays.

Kiri C - Discuss and Triple Jump

Maya H - 100m and Triple Jump

Kooper H - Shot Put

Rose E - 200m

Bailey B - Discus

Alana B - High Jump

Rose K - Triple Jump

Kayden V- Shot Put

Swimming (as per the Grade 5/6 report)

Congratulations to students who participated in the swim program. Research tells us that the quickest and greatest improvements come from a program like the one we have just conducted.

However, one week does not make a component swimmer with survival strokes sufficiently developed. I like to think of the program just concluded as a platform to launch from.

The greatest impact or leverage from the program that can be delivered, is if students now embark on a regular swim program, if they are not already doing so.  To make your child water safe is a sensational gift to give.

Bike Education

Just a reminder that Bike Education for grades 4/5 and 5/6 starts in week 3, term 4.

By the time you read this you should have received a Compass event notification.

Students are expected to bring their bike and helmet for use in sessions (Tuesdays). Bikes can be stored at school if transport is a problem. There are also school bikes if your child cannot bring their own.

Please do a mechanical check of bikes before they are bought to school to ensure they are safe. A checklist will be sent home.

Digi Tech

This term in Digital Technologies, students from Prep through to Year Six have been developing their programming and problem-solving skills through hands-on coding activities.

Prep – Year Two Our youngest learners have been exploring ScratchJr, a visual coding platform designed for early years. Through drag-and-drop blocks, students have been learning the fundamentals of programming such as sequencing instructions, using loops for repetition, and designing simple animations and interactive stories. They have also been practising how to debug (fix) their code when something doesn’t work as expected. These activities are helping students build confidence in thinking logically and creatively while understanding how digital systems follow precise instructions.

Years Four – Six students in the upper years have been working with Scratch, which allows for more complex coding projects. They have been extending their skills by learning how to use variables to track scores and lives, apply conditional statements (if/then rules), and combine multiple scripts to control different characters (sprites). A major focus has been on designing and programming their own simple video games, including classics such as Pong and scrolling platform games. These projects have challenged students to think critically about game mechanics, user interaction, and creative design, while also reinforcing resilience as they test, refine, and improve their programs.

Across all year levels, students are not only developing technical coding skills but also strengthening their creativity, logical reasoning, and collaboration—skills that are essential in today’s digital world.

Visual Arts

In Visual Arts this term, students have been busy exploring screen printing! Our focus was on Bittern Primary School’s updated values. Students discussed what each value meant to them and brainstormed how these could be represented visually. They then created drawings to express their ideas. The senior students worked together to digitise the drawings and arrange them into a balanced and visually effective composition. Once the screen was prepared, each student printed the design onto either a t-shirt or fabric, creating a unique and lasting piece of artwork.

We would also like to sincerely thank the Williams family for kindly donating extra fabric tote bags as well as Mr. E. for donating some coloured shirts from the PE room. This generous support ensured that every student could take part in the project and proudly take home their own printed design.

The results look amazing, and we are so proud of the creativity and teamwork shown throughout this project.

Art Attack Success

We are so proud of the wonderful exhibition from our Bittern Primary School students selected to be part of the August Art Attack. Several students were recognised for their outstanding work: Dakota – U18 Sculpture Winner, Rose E – People’s Choice Primary Aged Winner, and Amelia A and Damon – Special Mentions. All of the artwork looked amazing, and we congratulate every student who represented our school so beautifully!
