Primary Production: Alice in Wonderland Jr.
Jude Shields, Primary Production Director
Last week, our Senior Primary students followed Alice down the rabbit hole during their production of Alice in Wonderland JR. at the Karralyka Theatre. What they created was a world bursting with colourful costumes and makeup, enthusiastic singing, dancing, acting, and amazing props and sets.
The Mad Hatter’s Symphony kicked off the four performances in spectacular style. Audiences were then swept into a whirlwind of spinning umbrellas, a talking doorknob, a Caucus race, imaginative movie backgrounds, a lively game of Simon Says, and an army of cards painting the roses red.
Just like the Caterpillar says, “Hey, kiddo. What an adventure you’ve been on! What people you’ve met!” Our students have indeed made new friends and grown on this adventure and discovered more about the people God has made them to be.
As the Caterpillar reminds us, “Don’t you know, beauty is just a surface thing? Who you really are- what you’re worth- resides much, much deeper.”
We are grateful for the support from all areas of the school. The dedication of students, teachers, learning assistants, and our parent community made this WONDERFUL adventure possible. Together, we created a Wonderland we will never forget.
Term 4 Sport
Ingrid Briggs, Primary Sport Coordinator
For many of our Senior Primary students, being selected to represent our College in offsite sporting events is often a highlight of their year! It has been another busy season or sprinting, bouncing, leaping and throwing with our enthusiastic teams training hard at lunchtimes over the term for Hooptime Basketball and two Athletics Championships.
Hooptime Basketball
DCC launched five representative teams to Kilsyth Basketball stadium recently as part of the Victorian Hooptime Basketball championships, and it was an exciting day of competition in a very fast 2 x 8 minute format.
In our most successful Hooptime results to date, four out of five of our teams made it to grand finals, with each of our students demonstrating incredible teamwork, impressive skills and a tenacious spirit.
Congratulations to the All Star Boys team (coached by Mr Bryant) and the Future Mixed DCC Cobras (coached by Mr Halls) who have now been invited to progress to the Regional championships held in Term 4!
District Athletics
As is now tradition at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track in Burwood East, our 64 District Athletics students (and staff!) endured a day of unpredictable Melbourne weather with some blue skies in the morning transforming into dark storm clouds which ultimately led to a deluge of rain! However in Athletics, the show must go on, and our students handled the soggy conditions with bravery and resolute determination!
There were an impressive 19 podium finishes, with 8 of our students progressing to the SSV Division Championships in eleven events in October.
Congratulations to our Year 3 students, who represented the College in an interschool sporting event for the first time!
CSEN Athletics
In the midst of a very busy week of Alice in Wonderland Jr. performances, fifty students descended onto Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park last Friday for the annual CSEN Athletics Championships. This event involves 13 Christian schools across Victoria with hundreds of students competing on the unique blue athletics track with the impressive city skyline emerging over the grand stand.
It is always an exciting day for our DCC team, and it was a competitive day of thrilling results with DCC achieving second place overall, missing the CSEN championship cup by only 16 points!
Our team won an incredible 35 medals (11 Gold, 19 Silver and 5 Bronze), with Delia Coffey (800m) and Alby Rezk (800m) breaking long standing CSEN records.
A huge congratulations to Maisie Coffey (Year 6) who was announced CSEN ‘Queen of the Track’ out of 209 female competitors following an outstanding day of running.
Year 3 student Alby Rezk also achieved a first place in each of his events, taking home an impressive four gold medals in the nine year old age group.
We were immensely proud of all our students, who challenged themselves, encouraged others and represented the DCC cross proudly.
Our challenge for 2026 is to take home the Championship Cup!
