What A WONDERFUL Adventure!
Tanya Vaughan, Deputy Principal - Head of Primary
Whilst it has been a short term, it’s been quite the adventure, and we have much to celebrate as we have gathered as members of our thriving community across the term.
We started our term with our efforts focused on how we could develop GRIT. Many chose goals and they worked on strategies to achieve them. They made mistakes along the way, picked themselves up, tried again, and kept on persevering and persisting.
And last week, we saw the fruits of a GRITTY season, as our Years 3-6 students rose to the challenge of storytelling through song, dance and performance at our WONDERFUL production, Alice in Wonderland JR.
There is a moment in Alice in Wonderland that caught my attention, as Alice and the wise Caterpillar/Butterfly share an exchange of dialogue.
Caterpillar: See! It’s all about the adventure, kid! You never know who you’ll become along the way.
Small Alice: Okay! But….what should I do?
Caterpillar: Keep going!!
This is the reason why it is important that we develop GRIT in our students….the ‘adventure’ of life, learning and relationships can and will be hard at times. There will be seasons when they will struggle to know what to do next, other than to continue to put one foot in front of the other.
As they learn to trust in the power and strength of the Holy Spirit, it is during these times that GRIT comes into play, developing perseverance and persistence along the way. As they do this, they become stronger and wiser; they develop greater understanding and more empathy for others. GRIT helps our students to become more like Jesus, as they look to Him and recognise that with Him, they can keep on going!
And so, we celebrate all that our students are becoming as they continue to develop their GRIT…We celebrate:
Like Alice, our Primary students, staff and parent community have enjoyed a WONDERFUL adventure this term. Thank you for sharing in the joys, the challenges and the GRIT with us!
Time to climb out of the rabbit hole, smell the roses and enjoy the WONDERFUL adventure as you head off into the holiday break!
