Catholic Identity

Year 5 FIRE Carrier Commissioning Ceremony

On Thursday our Year 5 students were officially commissioned as FIRE Carriers at the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry in Thornbury.

The FIRE Carrier program (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education) is a leadership opportunity that empowers students to guide our school in reconciliation and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This work is deeply connected to our Catholic faith, as we are called to live out the Gospel values of justice, dignity, respect, and love for all people.

Throughout the day, our Year 5 leaders:

  • Learned more about the role of a FIRE Carrier
  • Reflected on reconciliation and what it means in the light of the Gospel
  • Worked on our school’s Covenant of commitment
  • Explored ways to put Catholic Social Teaching into action through justice and solidarity

The day concluded with the Commissioning Ceremony, where our students were presented with certificates and made their personal pledges as FIRE Carriers. Their promises reflect both their commitment to reconciliation and their faith in action as young leaders in our Catholic community.

This is a wonderful leadership opportunity for our Year 5 students. We are so proud of their commitment and look forward to them sharing their ideas and inspiration with the St Joseph’s community, helping us all to continue walking together in faith and reconciliation.

Father's Day Liturgy

Today, we gathered as a school community to celebrate our Father’s Day Liturgy, hosted by our wonderful Year 2 students. Together, we gave thanks to God for the gift of fathers, grandfathers, and all the special role models who share His love, guidance, and care in our lives.

We are grateful to Ms Huebner and Ms Clerehan for preparing the children so beautifully, and to our families for joining us and participating so prayerfully in the liturgy. Most of all, we thank our Year 2 students for leading us in prayer with such confidence and joy, reminding us of the importance of family as part of God’s plan for us.

We pray that all fathers and special people in our community enjoyed a blessed Father’s Day filled with love, faith, and gratitude.
