We are delighted to share that Cariad Lewis (Yr 8) and Rebecca Walters (Yr 10) have both achieved first place in Tasmania in the 2025 Australian Geography Competition. This is a remarkable accomplishment, as our school is the only Tasmanian school to have two prize-winners this year.
The Australian Geography Competition is a national contest, with over 54,000 students participating from across the country. Both students will receive special prizes and certificates in recognition of their outstanding efforts.
We are also thrilled to announce that Mia Turner (Yr 10) has been awarded Joint State Champion for Tasmania in the 2025 Australian History Competition. This is an outstanding achievement, recognising Mia as one of the very best young historians in the state.
The Australian History Competition saw over 38,000 students from across the country take part this year. Mia will receive a medallion at the State Awards Ceremony to be held in late October.
Alongside Mia’s success, our school is also proud to celebrate two other High Distinction results: Rosie McClean (Yr 10) and Cariad Lewis (Yr 8).
These results are a wonderful reflection not only of our students’ talent and dedication, but also of the teaching staff who foster curiosity and critical thinking in the classroom.
The following students were also rewarded for their achievements:

What Matters? Writing Competition
2025 is the 21st year of the What Matters? Writing Competition and it was the biggest year ever. Over 6,500 students from 813 schools around Australia entered the competition.
Inspired by Gough Whitlam's commitment to involving young people in shaping Australia's future, the What Matters? writing competition is open to school students in years 5 to 12 across Australia. Responding to the simple question 'what matters?', entrants are free to express their views on any matter they care about.
Year 5 student, Shanaya Prajit was awarded runner-up for Tasmania for her entry.
MAT Relay
A number of our Years 5 and 6 students entered the Mathematical Association of Tasmania (MAT) Relay on Sunday 21 September.
The girls had to solve 20 mathematical problems within 45 minutes in a relay style competition. The girls did very well and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Special thanks goes to Stella Pedersen (Yr 3) who filled in at the last minute due some girls being unable to participate due to illness.
Thanks also to all the parents who gave up part of their Sunday to support the students.
