A Word from the Principal

End of Term Reflection

As we come to the close of another term, I take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of our College community. It has been a busy and rewarding term filled with learning, growth, and celebration. Our students have embraced the challenges of their studies, engaged in co-curricular opportunities, and contributed to the life of the College with energy and commitment. For this, I am deeply grateful.

This week we were privileged to celebrate the formal opening of the Louisa Centre, a significant milestone in the history of our College. The occasion brought together many special guests, including our newly installed Archbishop Anthony Ireland, visiting politicians Senator Carol Brown, representatives from the Sisters of Charity, former and current members of the College Board as well as Dr Gerard Gaskin and other leadership staff from Catholic Education Tasmania. Our College Captains represented the student body, supporting our Kinder and Prep students - a reminder of the future leaders being formed within our community. The opening was marked with the blessing and unveiling of a commemorative plaque, symbolising both gratitude for the past and hope for the future. Guests were also invited to view the striking photograph taken at Dun Laoghaire, Ireland, which depicts the departure point of the Sisters of Charity on their journey to Australia - a powerful reminder of the courage and faith that laid the foundations for our College today.

I take this opportunity to highlight our Year 6 students who represented the College with maturity and respect on their trip to Canberra last week.  Recognised by several members of the Canberra community for their knowledge, outstanding behaviour and commitment to our College, they enjoyed a week long series of events from visiting Parliament House to swimming at the Australian Institute of Sport, smelling flowers in Floriade and laying a wreath at the War Memorial.  An amazing experience for all, I also thank the staff who ensured this trip will be a cherished memory into the future.

As we move into the holiday period, I want to thank all families for their support and acknowledge the hard work of our students and staff during a busy term. Next term promises to be just as full, with our Welcome BBQ, Step Up Days, Year 10 exams, and preparations for 2026 already underway.

I encourage families to pause, reflect, and give thanks - for the growth of our young people, for the opportunities we have shared, and for the gift of community. May the next two weeks be a time of rest, connection, and renewal.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”

(Psalm 107:1)

On behalf of all at Mount Carmel, I wish you a safe, restful, and joy-filled break, with hopefully some sunshine and family time, as we prepare for the final chapter of this year.
