Student Shout Out

Trug’s Kevin from 7D has proven that dedication, discipline and a passion for community service can take a young firefighter far. Competing in the CFA/VFBV Junior Urban Firefighter Championships over recent weekends, Kevin returned home with an impressive haul of medals and the pride of his local brigade.
Kevin, who trains weekly and travels to weekend competitions across the state, took part in several highly technical events designed to develop teamwork, hose handling, accuracy and speed — all essential skills in urban firefighting.
At the State Firefighter Championships in Mooroopna, Kevin competed in the Under 17 and event, demonstrating remarkable skill for his age. He achieved 2nd place in the U/17 “4 Wet 1 Disc” event, a challenging discipline where a four-person team must run out a hose line, charge it with water, and accurately strike a target disc in the fastest possible time.
Kevin and his teammates also secured 1st place in the U/17 Wet Hose – Four Competitors Striking One Disc Twice, an event requiring exceptional coordination. In this challenge, the team must operate a charged line to hit a target disc two times, showcasing accuracy under pressure and smooth teamwork.
Adding to his growing list of achievements, Kevin earned 3rd place in the Y Coupling event, another four-competitor challenge.
Competing again in his own age division, Kevin also celebrated a 2nd place finish in the U/14 Wet Hose – Two Competitors event. This discipline sees two young firefighters run out, connect, and operate a wet hose line to hit a target, reinforcing foundational hose-handling skills.
Kevin’s strong performances highlight not only his athletic ability but also his commitment to the CFA’s values of teamwork, leadership and service.
Local brigade members, family, and coaches say they are incredibly proud of Kevin’s achievements and are excited to see where his firefighting journey will take him next.
Well Done, Kevin!
