Health & Physical Education Learning Area Snapshot

... from Eva Ishchenko, Year 9 Student
This term has been filled with various sporting opportunities for our students. Across squash, netball, AFL, golf and touch football, each interschool competition displayed not only skill and determination but also teamwork, sportsmanship and true school spirit.
The Healthway Interschool Squash Series ran over two consecutive days with competitors for years 7-9 and years 10-12. Students not only showcased their squash skills but also built friendships and cheered one another on.
“Everyone played very well, supported their teammates and had an amazing time”, Ella Clarke (Year 8)
With over 100 participants, the Champions School Golf Competition brought together students from Years 7-12 to display their skills and abilities. This year, 3 of our golfers placed in the top 20 of their age groups – a true example of Applecross’s core value of striving for personal best.
“Overall, it was a great day. I really enjoyed it,” Nicholas Chua (Year 10)
Our multicultural netball carnival was another highlight, celebrating WA’s diverse cultures through netball. Teams demonstrated fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship, as well as so many different nationalities showing their love and passion for netball.
“I enjoyed the atmosphere”, Simra Shah (Year 9)
In addition, the Freo Dockers Schoolgirls Cup saw our Years 7-9 female players take to the football field, with some trying out for the first time while others sharpened their skills. Our girl teams went head–to–head with their competitors, their efforts rewarded with several awards.
“It was fun versing the different girls and teams”, Grace Peachy (Year 8)
The Senior Touch Football was another exciting highlight of this term. The senior games were fast-paced and full of intensity, with players presenting their sharp reflexes, strong coordination and determined efforts from start to finish.
Congratulations to everyone who competed, supported their peers and represented our school with pride – above and beyond.

In addition to the events that occurred in Term 3, students also had the opportunity to represent the school in Volleyball, Basketball, and Badminton.

House Athletics Carnival
To cap off what has been a busy term in Health and Physical Education, we held our annual House Athletics Carnival. This year's event hosted students from Years 7 to 12 at Karoonda Reserve for a day of fun and competition. Students competed in a variety of athletic events and also enjoyed some time engaging in novelty games. House Spirit was on show with students and staff alike dressed to the nines in an assortment of House coloured outfits. Incredible demonstration of athletic prowess was easy to spot, records were broken, but the teamwork and resilience shown across all year groups was the highlight of the day.
