School Board

School Board Meeting Summary - 18 September

The September Board meeting was highly productive, covering a wide range of updates and initiatives. In addition to recent school highlights, the Principal’s Report recognised Education Assistant Appreciation Week, acknowledging the outstanding contributions of our Education Assistants (EAs). It also celebrated members of the Student Services Team selected to participate in the ACTION Respect Secondary Program—an initiative delivered by Starick Services and supported by the Australian Government to promote respectful relationships education in WA secondary schools.

The Board received financial updates and endorsed the 2026 costings and budget. The Student Council provided an overview of key activities across the school and preparations for the upcoming Year 12 mock exams. The P&C report highlighted the success of the recent music and choir night, along with the re-opening of the school’s second-hand uniform shop.

Infrastructure and development remain central themes across all 2025 Board meetings, and these discussions continue to shape priorities ahead of the forthcoming meeting with the Education Minister. The meeting concluded with a review of the draft School Business Plan, focusing on refining the Vision, goals, and priorities for the next planning cycle.

In closing, the Board wishes to acknowledge the recent announcement shared with staff and students regarding the upcoming retirement of our esteemed Principal, Paul Leech. While we are saddened by the news, we wholeheartedly respect and support Paul’s decision as he looks forward to this next chapter with his family.

On behalf of the entire school community, we extend our deepest gratitude to Paul for his outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to Applecross SHS. His vision, dedication, and care have been central to the school’s success and to making it the special place it is today.

Paul will be greatly missed by staff, students, and families alike. We look forward to celebrating his remarkable contributions before his departure and invite everyone to join us in thanking him and wishing him every success and happiness for the future.
