Wednesday 29th January - Curriculum Day

Last week our teachers and staff participated in a curriculum day centred around aspects of Explicit Teaching, Cognitive Load Theory and Checking For Understanding techniques. This time proved to be valuable, as staff had the time to develop a clear understanding of how our students learn best and to then apply the appropriate techniques in the classroom which will allow all students to feel success in the classroom. This will continue to be a year long focus and we look forward to continuing this journey.

Adjustment to Reading Assessment

Throughout 2024 key leaders within the school began investigating into certain changes with how we conduct our reading assessment across the school. A team of staff were heavily involved in professional learning, networking, observations and trials which led to an exciting adjustment to how we assess the wide range of reading skills in our students.

As we finalise this process, our teachers will be provided with the appropriate tools and professional learning to administer and interpret a range of data sets to effectively understand how best our students read. Please know, that students in our junior school (Foundation - Grade 2) this may impact when take home readers will be sent home. We do know that this is an important process in your child's learning and families enjoy the time engaging in learning at home, but we will be sure that this is communicated to all parents within the next week. If you have any questions regarding this please ensure that you contact the school.

New Mathematics Curriculum

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) recently published its revised mathematics curriculum (Mathematics Curriculum 2.0). All Victorian government schools are mandated to start implementing the Mathematics curriculum 2.0 in 2025.

The main difference is that previously the curriculum was separated into 3 strands:

  1. Number & Algebra

  2. Measurement & Geometry

  3. Statistics & Probability

With the updated curriculum, there will be now 6 strands of learning:

  1. Number

  2. Algebra

  3. Measurement

  4. Space

  5. Statistics

  6. Probability

Our staff and teachers have heavily engaged in extensive professional learning and development throughout last year to ensure an easy transition in teaching and learning coming into 2025.

Please know that due to these changes there will be difference in your child's/children's Mathematics Semester Report. However, further communication regarding this will be provided throughout Semester 1. If you have any further questions regarding the new Mathematics Curriculum, please contact the school.

Please enjoy some images of our students enjoying their first few days back in the classroom!
