Numeracy
This week, Grade 1 and 2 students have enjoyed creating patterns, identifying patterns, skip counting and working on number sequences.
Grade 1Z Quotes
“Patterns are like puzzles, and I love solving them!”
“I see a pattern! It goes red, green, blue, red, green, blue..."
“Patterns make maths feel like a game!”
“If I can find the first part, the rest of the pattern is easy!”
“I made a pattern with teddies! It’s two blue, one red, two yellow, two blue, one red, two yellow!”
“I can work out what comes next in the pattern!"
"I can see more patterns on my 100s Chart. I can skip count by 2s, 5s, 10s."
"When you look diagonally, on the number chart you can see number patterns like 1, 12, 23, 34!"
Literacy
In Literacy students have focussed on choral reading, comprehension, grammar and spelling. They are settling well into our new routines and explicit phonics instruction programs.
Thrive
During our Wednesday Thrive afternoon we learned about identifying emotions and being able to name different emotions that we feel. We discussed how emotions are not good or bad; they are our body’s way of communicating with us how we feel about something. Grade 2 students made an emotions wheel and had lots of fun using a spinner to land on different emotions and then acting them out.
Grade 1 students identified the different emotions and feelings that show up when we experience change. When we notice and listen to our feelings, we learn more about ourselves and what we might need. Students also discussed how they can always talk to their trusted people about how they feel (excited, joyful, happy, relaxed, worried, confused, etc.).
