Opening Mass

We were thrilled to come together as a school community today for our Opening School Mass, celebrating under the inspiring theme Pilgrims of Hope. Families, students, and staff gathered to mark the beginning of the school year. Our students played an active role throughout the Mass, contributing with readings, singing, and presenting gifts at the altar. We strive to make our school Masses an engaging and joyful expression of worship, fostering a strong sense of togetherness as we embark on the new school year. A special highlight of the Mass was the blessing of our student leadership badges, symbolising their commitment to guiding our school in meaningful and positive directions.

This year marks a Jubilee. A Jubilee is a special year of grace and renewal, marked by prayer, pilgrimage, and sacramental repentance. Traditionally held every 25 years or during special occasions as proclaimed by the Pope, a Jubilee invites the faithful to reflect on their spiritual lives and embrace holiness through concrete rituals, acts of charity, and renewed commitments to faith. Its ultimate purpose is to strengthen the Church's witness to God’s boundless mercy in the world.

The term "Jubilee" comes from the Hebrew word jobel, meaning "ram's horn." In ancient times, the sound of the ram’s horn signaled the start of a jubilee year. The tradition finds its roots in the Book of Leviticus, where the Jubilee is described as a sacred time of liberation and renewal, celebrated in the fiftieth year following seven cycles of seven years.
