Assistant Principal Report

A Final Message for 2024

As Term 4 draws to a close and we reflect on the year, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Highvale Primary School community for warmly welcoming me this term. It has been wonderful getting to know the students, families, and staff who make this school such a special place. I see it as a true privilege to work with the incredible students at Highvale, and I am continually inspired by their enthusiasm and resilience. The dedicated staff at Highvale remain steadfast in their commitment to providing the care, support and opportunities our students need to thrive. Wishing everyone a joyful and restful holiday season – I look forward to an exciting year ahead with you all in 2025!

Tips for a Safe and Healthy Holiday Break

School holidays are a time for children to take a

break from their daily routines and spend it with families and friends. It may also be a time for older children to begin exploring their independence and freedoms. As children enjoy their holidays and the freedom to play on devices, it’s a great opportunity to encourage a balance between ‘screen time’ and ‘green time.’ Stepping away from screens to explore outdoor activities, play, or engage in creative pursuits can help children recharge and stay active.

While we hope all our students have a wonderful and enjoyable break, their safety remains our top priority, and we encourage them to make safe and responsible choices throughout the holidays.

Over the holidays, I encourage families to take the time to talk with their children about road safety and use everyday moments to teach them how to be safe pedestrians, responsible riders, and careful passengers.

Things to share with your children when they're out and about:

  • they always tell you/an adult when and where they are going
  • if feeling unsafe, tell someone and move to somewhere safer
  • avoid playing near driveways and carparks as drivers may not see them
  • check their bike's brakes, bell, reflectors and tyres are all working before going for a ride
  • correctly wear a helmet when riding scooters/bikes
  • remove their headphones when near traffic so they can hear approaching vehicles
  • stop, look, listen, think before they cross the road, and not just follow their friends
  • wear bright clothing so drivers can see them, especially when it's twilight.
