STEM

In 2024, 48 students from Merri-bek City Council schools Coburg High School, Glenroy College, John Fawkner College and Pascoe Vale Girls College completed a design thinking program to solve clean energy challenges posed by an industry partner, Solstice AI. The program was hosted by the STEM Centre of Excellence at the University of Melbourne’s Science Gallery Melbourne.

Library

Well here we are running head first into another year and all of its amazing possibilities. We welcomed a whole new generation of reading monsters courtesy of our incredible Year 7 cohort. What a bunch of legends!

The library also introduced our two new student Library Assistants for the 2025 year. Welcome Amy P and Anna H. We are looking forward to some fun times throughout the year.

As this librarian writes this, she is about to head into a bookstore to purchase a rather large selection of books for the collection thanks to some extremely generous families in the community who have made financial donations to the library fund. Thank you so much. It humbles this librarian to see the support we receive here. Our student cohort should be very pleased with the results over the next couple of weeks.

That’s about it for now. I will leave you with a few images of our wonderful students utilising the library this year so far.

Student Excellence

Congratulations Stephanie Keays -

VCAA season of Excellence Top Class Dance Selection

CHS is delighted to announce that one of our 2024 VCE Dance students, Stephanie Keays, has been selected to perform as part of The VCAA Season of Excellence Top Class Dance 2025 at Melbourne Recital Centre!

Top Class is an annual concert series presented by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) showcasing outstanding performances by VCE and VCE VET students from schools across the state.

This year, 123 top performing students were invited to audition for Top Class Dance, and only 35 students were selected to perform. Selected performers exemplify the skill and creativity that can be achieved within the VCE curriculum. Stephanie will perform her VCE Skills-based Solo & VCE Cohesive Composition Solo: Poison.

Coburg High school proudly congratulates Stephanie, her teacher Jenna Carracher and all the staff over the years who have supported Stephanie in her learning, and helped her achieve this success.

Year 9/10 Boys Volleyball

On Tuesday the 25th of February the Year 9/10 Boys Volleyball Team competed in the Divisional Volleyball Competition.

The Year 9 and 10 boys travelled to Glenroy College to compete for the Divisional Volleyball Pennant. After putting in 3 weeks of training the two teams were ready to win.

The A and B Teams faced Ilium College along with two Glenroy College teams. The B team put in their best effort and just lost by hairs.

The A team put on a show, with their first game supported by the cheers of the B Team to  beat one of the Glenroy teams. Next game facing Ilium College was tougher but the A Team still prevailed. The A and B Team’s then competed against each other in a heated but enjoyable Derby.

The A Team then competed in their toughest  game against Glenroy’s A team. With good rallies and amazing plays the A Team prevailed, ending the day without losing a single set.

Congratulations to the boys for bringing home the Pennant and for making it to the next round.
