From the Head of Senior School
Last week marked the conclusion of the term with the Junior and Senior School Speech Nights. These events are designed to acknowledge the efforts of our students in their co-curricular pursuits, as well as in the domains of citizenship and emotional intelligence. Awards are presented to students who exemplify the values embodied in our school's Imagine Charter and who represent the ideals of social and emotional learning at Girton Grammar. Furthermore, our students are recognised for their academic achievements, which reflect their commitment and diligence in their respective subjects, while colours awards are presented to students to recognise service to their House.
The induction of the new Co-curricular Captains and House Captains signifies their initial foray into Senior School leadership roles. The grand finale of the Year 10 to 12 Speech Night featured the induction of our Year 12 Prefects, Vice-Captains and Captains. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the families, external businesses and staff whose contributions are instrumental to the success of these awards.
In their addresses, the departing Captains, Miffy and Charlotte, contemplated their experiences at Girton, focusing on the concepts of 'mattering' and 'imperfection'. Both articulated that a student's path at Girton transcends the recognition they may receive or the imperfections that may arise, suggesting that their journey is fundamentally about the character they manifest in the everyday moments of their educational experience. This includes the value each student adds to their friendships, relationships with teachers, their House and the community.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our 2025 Prefects and Captains, wishing them a year filled with personal development and growth in their leadership positions. Our Prefects and School Captains will assume crucial responsibilities in cultivating a positive school environment and serving as exemplary role models for their peers. They will facilitate communication between students and staff, address concerns, organise events, and ensure the smooth operation of various school events. Additionally, the Prefects and Captains will engage in developing their passion projects, assist in mentoring younger students, and uphold the school's values. Collectively, they exemplify the principles of responsibility, teamwork and leadership, inspiring the entire school community to strive for excellence.
As we conclude the 2024 school year, it is an opportune moment to reflect on the remarkable journey we have undertaken together. The dedication and diligence exhibited by our students in Years 7 to 12 have been truly commendable, and we take immense pride in their achievements. I extend my deepest gratitude to our students, parents, carers and staff for their invaluable contributions throughout the academic year. I hope the holiday season offers you a restful and rejuvenating break filled with joy, warmth and cherished moments with loved ones.
