Year 6 Presentation Evening

The Year 6 students celebrated their final year of Junior School last Friday in the Gymnasium. The students enjoyed a two-course meal and looking back at their time in Year 6.

Our guest speaker was past student Tyler Mow. Tyler commenced at Girton in Year 1 in 1994. He talked to the students about his dream of becoming an orthopaedic surgeon. Tyler attended the University of Melbourne and graduated with a Bachelor of Science before completing a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Deakin University in 2013. After working as an intern and resident, he was accepted into the orthopaedic surgery training program. Tyler has lived and worked in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Wollongong and Port Macquarie, and has recently returned from a year in Ontario, Canada. The students thoroughly enjoyed his speech about following your dreams.

Mr Thompson presented each of the students with a certificate, and the evening concluded with the students presenting their rendition of the song 'Cover Me In Sunshine'.

Friends of Junior School

Cinema Day

Thank you to the Friends of Junior School (FOJS) for their wonderful ongoing support across 2024. FOJS worked tirelessly to host year-level morning teas, cook sausages, host parent and family functions, and be involved in the Girton Junior School. At the end of the year, the FOJS and Junior School parents put on a wonderful luncheon to say thank you to the staff.  Thank you to all the parents involved. The staff are truly grateful and appreciative of the gesture.

Not to leave out the students, FOJS once again donned their aprons and cooked a sausage sizzle for all the Junior School students and staff in the last week of school.  Students enjoyed a sausage in bread and a Zooper Dooper to finish off their excursion to the Bendigo Cinema.

Christmas Table Food Drive

A huge thank you to our Junior School families for their overwhelming generosity in this year’s Christmas Table Food Drive. Volunteers from Bendigo Foodshare were amazed by your kindness and support.

Each week, Bendigo Foodshare provides essential food relief to over 13,000 people across Central Victoria who are facing food insecurity. If you’d like to contribute further, Bendigo Foodshare has launched their Christmas Giving Appeal. Suggested donation items include pasta, rice, tinned vegetables and fruit, spreads, breakfast cereals, tea, coffee and long-life milk. Your support makes a difference to families in need this festive season!

Succulent garden update

The first stage of the succulent garden near the Art Room in the C Block area is now complete. Over the holiday break, we aim to relocate the final two garden beds and look forward to finishing the project early next year. Thank you to everyone who generously donated succulents and materials to help get the garden started. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.

Sunshine Bendigo is a community-based, volunteer group providing practical support to families in the Central Victoria region. Many families have faced tough challenges this year, and the volunteers at Sunshine are working hard to put Christmas packages together for children aged up to six years. The amazing volunteer team has so far prepared 623 toy bags and 400 food hampers to give to families experiencing challenging times. They still need some gifts for the youngest age group of 0 to 1 years. If you would like to donate to the 2024 Toy Drive, your support would be greatly appreciated.

  • Gift suggestions for ages 0 to 1: soft toys, cloth books, sensory toys, rattles
  • Deliver to 6 Nolan Street, East Bendigo
  • Open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00am to 3:00pm
  • Donated toys need to be new, in original packaging and unwrapped.
