First Aid News
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As we begin the school year, here are a few important reminders:
MEDICATIONS DURING SCHOOL HOURS
If your child requires medication during school hours, please ensure the appropriate medication forms are completed and submitted to the school office. You can collect a hard copy from the office or download the form from the school website under Notices and Forms: https://www.kalinda.vic.edu.au/page/59/Notices-and-Forms.
INFECTIOUS DISEASES
The Department of Health has specific guidelines regarding infectious diseases. Any infectious diseases (e.g., chickenpox, measles, mumps, impetigo, etc.) must be reported to the school and to your doctor. The school is then required to notify the Department of Health. A notice will be sent home to alert parents of any illnesses within the school. Before your child can return to school, a medical clearance from your GP is required. For more information, please refer to the Department of Health's guidelines: https://www.health.vic.gov.au/infectious-diseases/school-exclusion-table. If you're unsure about symptoms, please consult your doctor.
SEVERE ALLERGIES (ANAPHYLAXIS)
We have some students at Kalinda who are at risk of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to certain foods, including cow's milk, peanuts, raw egg, tree nuts, pine nuts, sesame seeds, banana, avocado, and kiwi fruit. This is an extremely serious condition, and we must treat it with great care.
For the safety of all students, please remind your child that sharing food is not allowed at school. This helps reduce the risk of accidental exposure to allergens.
This also supports indivdual family dietary choices.
STUDENT HEALTH SUPPORT PLANS
All Foundation students were sent home with a Student Health Support Plan last year. If you haven’t already done so, please complete and return the form to the office as soon as possible.
If you need a new form, it’s available for download from the school website under Notices and Forms: https://www.kalinda.vic.edu.au/page/59/Notices-and-Forms.
Additionally, if there have been any changes to your child’s health condition or if your child is new to our school, please make sure to complete an updated Student Health Support Plan. This ensures we have the correct information to provide the best care for your child at school.
If you have any questions or need assistance with these forms, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school office.
Thank you for your attention to these important matters.
We look forward to a great year ahead!
