We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People of the Kulin nation; past, present and those who will walk with us into the future. We acknowledge the rich and unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas, educational practices and the hopes of all First Nations Peoples. We do this in the spirit of reconciliation as we move to a place of justice and partnership - together we work, learn, play and care for one another and this land.
It has been great to be back at school for another year, and particularly pleasing to see how well our students have begun the school year. Our Foundation students have started school in a very positive manner, and the rest of our students have been engaged and connected throughout this first fortnight of our 2025 Blast Off Program (our start-of-year program).
Thank you to all of our Kalinda staff for thoroughly preparing for the year and ensuring that the start of the year is engaging, fun, and calm. Thank you also to all the parents throughout the school for working with their children to prepare them for a positive start to the school year.
On Tuesday 18th February families are invited to attend our Community Afternoon at school. The afternoon will include open classrooms with a chance to see your child's classroom and meet their teacher, and will also include a Professional Learning session run by Kirsty Lush (Real Schools) with a focus on using Restorative Practices to support parenting at home.
Further information about the afternoon will be sent out later this week.
This year looks like it will be very exciting for our students and the school community. A few of the highlights I am really looking forward to are the 3/4 camp to Phillip Island, the 5/6 camp to Anglesea, Somers Camp, our school production, and students and staff from our sister school in Japan, Lilyvale Elementary, visiting in August.
The success of these extra-curricular events, including our extensive sports program, is greatly benefited by the support of our school community and parent volunteers. Thank you in advance to everyone who is willing to contribute some of their time to support these activities at school.
Over the summer holidays, we recruited two new staff members to join our team at the school. I would like to warmly welcome Marie-Claire Stamford who is teaching one of our 5/6 classes, and Narissa Farrell who is teaching STEM.
Marie-Claire and Narissa are both fantastic additions to our school staff, their passion, experience, and work ethic will be great additions to Kalinda. Welcome.
Pick up and drop up is the most dangerous time for students at any school. We urge all families to be patient, drive slowly and be careful when parking. We would also like to remind all families that parking in the staff car park ( anywhere inside the school gate) is strictly prohibited unless displaying a valid accessibility parking permit.
Cars entering and exiting the staff car park at pick up and drop off time is a risk to students who are walking out towards the exit and along the footpath near the main entry.
