Year 6D - Our Fabulous Start to The Year
Walking into our Year 6 Classroom for the first time this year made our eyes light up! We were met with the sight of our very own lounge room, Post Office, our own water supply and our wonderful teacher, Miss Dixon.
The vibe was like home away from home and we already love gathering as a class group in “the lounge room,” to take our morning roll and to talk about the day ahead.
We are all like one big happy family and we are excited about our final year of primary school!
So far, we are enjoying our new roles as leaders of the school. We have already organised and ran the first St. Columba’s Kids and we look forward to organising many more exciting events in the future.
Year 6
On Friday of the first week of school, the year 6 team organised the first St Columba's Kids of 2025! Joyful spirit was in the air, squeals of excitement could be heard from all around. Students from across the school came together to participate in the many fun activities which included: Gaga Ball, Number Soccer, Dodgeball, and Rock-paper-scissors Hoops. All the kids had a blast, and showed a lot of great sportsmanship.
Speaking of sportsmanship, this year we have introduced a new system, where the three different house colours face off in a friendly competition, cheering on their team to win points of glory for their house! We awarded sportsmanship points for kids that were standing out and encouraging each other. There were so many kids that were cheering their team on, that it was hard to choose just one person! At the end of each game we tallied up all the points.
Throughout the year, we will have more opportunities to continue with ‘the battle of the houses,’ to win team points for your house colour. These will include:
- Athletics Day
- STEAM Day (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics)
- Music/Choir Day (New!)
- More St Columba’s Kids
At the end of the year all the points that teams have collected will be tallied up. The winning team will be awarded with the house cup!
St. Columba’s Kids provides students with a fun way to make new friends and nurture old ones along the way! Kids love the exciting activities. This allows the Year Sixes to demonstrate and practise leadership while giving the younger kids a chance to connect with the older students.
To sum it all up, house spirit was in the air and teamwork was a big reason for this. Kids were playing together from across the school, which we and our wonderful teacher Miss Dixon loved to watch. These connections throughout the different classes makes our school a safe, welcome and happy environment to learn and play in, where everyone knows you by name. ❤️
