Students in Foundation for 2024 will begin their school year as a class on Thursday 1st February. Some will begin their testing on Wednesday 31st January (usually reserved for siblings or other students very familiar with our school) Teachers will be in touch regarding which Wednesday your child will be required to come in for a short time for testing.
Foundation students do not attend school full-time until the week of 13th March 2024.
New families should now be receiving emails from Kalinda Primary School. Please let us know if this is not the case. In November, Compass login details will also be emailed out.
The first day of school is an exciting one for parents and children. Making sure you have practised and prepared will ensure your child feels as comfortable as they can.
Be prepared for some nerves and even a few tears – although this does not affect every child. If this is an issue for your child, the Better Health Channel offers information on managing anxiety and fear in children.
Students are often very tired in their first term of school. Try not to plan many things to do after school, or their Wednesdays off. Learning is hard work. Making friends, taking turns and listening are all skills that will be practised every day. Learning to take care of items such as their hats, drink bottles and bags is often a new experience. This information is taken from the Department of Education website.

Play is the Way is a behaviour education program using fun, interactive games and activities to build our social/emotional health. You can read more about it at the link below. Right across the school we share a common language that includes these key concepts:
You will hear a lot about these, and Kalinda Crews where we develop these concepts and learn to put them into practice. The students are placed in multi-age groups (supported by their Grade 5 buddies), and meet with the Crew teacher once a fortnight. We recognise that students making connections with others as well as many adults in the community is an important part of their wellbeing.
