Year Prep to 6 Cultural Inculsion Term 4 Overviews 

PrepIn term 4, students will explore Indigenous languages around Australia. They will learn words from various languages and look at how these languages are used to express aspects of Indigenous culture through stories, songs, games and other activities 
Grade 1In term 4, students will look at Indigenous languages around Australia. They will identify the location of various languages on an Indigenous languages map of Australia. They will explore how Indigenous culture is expressed  through songs, stories, dance and animal studies.
Grade 2In term 4, students will continue to explore Indigenous languages around Australia through songs and stories. They will learn words from various languages. They will also explore the connection between language, culture and identity. 
Grade 3In Term 4, Students will explore Indigenous authors to investigate how First Nations cultures and traditions are handed down from generation to generation and they will connect this concept to their own cultures. They will establish how storytelling is the primary way in which Indigenous Australia’s history has been recorded and how this sustains communities, validates experiences, nurtures relationships and serves as a form of important cultural continuation for Indigenous people
Grade 4In Term 4, students will be introduced to a variety of stories about the night sky from First Nations people.They will explore the ways First Nations people gather and use observations of the night sky in spiritual, physical and cultural connections to Country and develop an understanding of how and why First Nations people are considered to be the very first astronomers.
Grade 5In term 4, students will continue their exploration of colonisation and its ongoing effects by looking at issues impacting on Indigenous Australians today. They include Land Rights and the importance of Country, Reconciliation, Closing the Gap, the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the Voice to Parliament. 
Grade 6In Term 4, Students will examine the role of Indigenous resistance in Australian history. They will look at the lack of citizenship rights for First Nations people, and how this changed throughout the colonial and postcolonial periods. Students will look at how Australian history has largely been written by non-Indigenous Australians and often ignores the experiences of Indigenous Australians and the resistance to colonisation is largely unknown. They will investigate significant events throughout history and explore the impact of these on First Nations Australians
