Year Prep to 6 Mandarin Term 4 Overviews

Grade Prep

In Term 4, students will explore the captivating story and song known as "Pull the Turnip" bá luó bō 拔萝卜. This engaging adventure will not only immerse them in the rich world of Chinese language but also introduce them to the rhythmic and rhyming aspects of the target language. Throughout this term, students will encounter a variety of verbs and become adept at discerning the nuances of tone in the target language. Students will participate in a wide range of interactive activities, delve into creative crafts, tackle thought-provoking worksheets, and experience multimedia resources.

 

Grade 1

In term 4, students will introduce to the new topic of pet animals. They will also practice constructing simple sentences to describe their pets, utilizing phrases like "wo you/mei you..." (I have/do not have...) and employing the correct measure words when describing pet animals in Chinese. To facilitate their learning, interactive activities will be incorporated into the classroom to help them acquire new vocabulary in the target language.

 

Grade 2

In term 4, students are delving into the identification of the fundamental characters that constitute Chinese nature words. Each of these characters carries its own distinct meaning, and students are encouraged to investigate the relationship between the character's form and its corresponding meaning. For instance, characters like "人" (pronounced as "rén," meaning "person") and "日" (pronounced as "rì," signifying "sun" or "day") are among the characters explored. Additionally, students will showcase their proficiency in utilising descriptive vocabulary in the Chinese language.

 

Grade 3

In term 4, students will be continuing to use the AIMS strategy, incorporating hand gestures as a learning aid, to immerse themselves in the Chinese story titled 'Little Tadpoles Looking for Mother'. Simultaneously, they will be immersed in vocabulary and sentence structures categorised according to the story's elements. The objective is for students to gain the confidence to proficiently read the story in Chinese and effectively perform it.

 

Grade 4

In term 4, students will embark on a journey to discover Chinese names for zoo animals, including "dà xiàng" (大象) for elephants and "shī zi" (狮子) for lions, among others. In addition to this, students will delve into the examination of various body parts of these animals and develop their ability to construct simple sentences like "dòng wù yuán yǒu dà xiàng" (动物园有大象), which means "There are elephants in the zoo." Students will be expose to range of relevant activities and multimedia to engage in the class.

 

Grade 5

In term 4, students will be immersed in the world of using measure words while engaging in the process of purchasing items in supermarkets and department stores. They will learn phrases like "mai yue bing" (买月饼) for buying mooncakes and "mai deng long" (买灯笼) for purchasing lanterns, among others. As they progress, students will also incorporate measure words into more intricate sentence structures, such as "mai yi he yue bing" (买一盒月饼), meaning "to buy a box of mooncakes," and more. Throughout this term, students will actively participate in a variety of activities and experience different shopping scenarios through multiple modes of communication.

 

Grade 6

In term 4, In this unit, students will delve into the examination of cultural values embedded in expressions linked to celebrations. For instance, they will inquire about the meaning of "tuan yuan 团圆" it means reunion. Additionally, students will develop their comprehension of the chronological evolution of traditional clothing in ancient China, drawing comparisons with contemporary fashion trends. Throughout this unit, students will put their research skills into practice to gain a deeper understanding of these cultural elements.
