Respectful, Responsible, Successful
Amazing Senior Leadership Team for 2023/2024
Congratulations to our newly appointed Leadership team.
We are very excited by the announcement of our team and by the enthusiasm and talent already demonstrated by our wonderful student body. All students are looking forward to fulfilling their leadership responsibilities across our school.
Cracker Year 7 Gala Day
Thank you to our Head Teacher PDHPE (Personal Development, Health and Physical Education) Mr Daniel Carrozza and the PDHPE team for providing a wonderful opportunity for students to participate in the Year 7 Gala Day. On the day the students arrived back at school red faced and full of excitement. There is nothing better than seeing students that have been physically active and that have enjoyed healthy and fun competition on the sporting field. The reports from the PDHPE team made me very proud as they had nothing but praise for Year 7 and our fabulous coaches from the Physical Activity and Sports Studies course.
Year 7 Cre8tive Dreamtime Workshops
Thank you to our amazing Mr Clough for providing our Year 7 students with a unique opportunity to explore our indigenous heritage. The Cre8tive Dreamtime program and the expert teachers took our students back more than 65,000 years exploring the science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture; the First Australian Peoples.
Students were taught about the Boomerang and how it has now been recognised as the manufacturing and engineering knowledge responsible for helicopter and drone technology. Year 7 students also found out about the digeridoo. The digeridoo is the oldest engineered and manufactured wood wind instrument in the world and is still played in modern music today. Fish Traps were also identified as possibly the oldest engineered and manufactured structure in human history, representing all components of STEAM. The feedback certainly demonstrated what a wonderful day students had! We are looking forward to running this very successful program in future years for our students.
Year 11 Life Ready
Our Year 11 students are now Life Ready!
What a fabulous two days for our Year 11 cohort. Last term, students attended the bstreetsmart program at Homebush and took part in an exciting, fun filled day with our fantastic PDHPE (Personal Development Health and Physical Education) team at school. They participated in activities such as Jumping Castles, Face Painting, A FIFA Competition, Bubble Soccer, A Movie Quiet Room, Dunk Tank, Rock Climbing and Basketball competitions. Students certainly enjoyed seeing their Year Adviser Mr Faga being dunked in the dunk tank!
For our Year 11 students being LIFE READY means students leave high school with the grit and perseverance to tackle and achieve their goals by demonstrating skills of self-awareness, self-management, social-awareness, responsible decision making, and relationship skills. The purpose of bstreetsmart is to reduce the fatality and injury rates of young people by promoting safe behaviour as drivers, riders and passengers. Attendance at the bstreetsmart event grows every year which means more students and teachers are experiencing and learning about the impact of dangerous/distracted driving and the consequences for those directly and indirectly involved in a crash. Going into its 19th year, the bstreetsmart forum is Australia’s largest educational event on road safety with 194 schools participating this year.
This year, four of our girls had the opportunity to go backstage and participate in a theatre sports activity with two actors. They were asked to act in a scenario on stage in front of a large crowd of students. The scenario helped them understand the importance of speaking out as a responsible passenger and reducing distractions while driving.
Well done to Alisivea Vehikite, Aliye Dursan, Safiya Bruzzesse and Yara Da Silva for displaying their fine acting talents.
Book Week celebrated!
It is always wonderful to see teachers dress up for a great cause! There was lots of fun to be had in the library during Book Week, with students involved in activities and competitions. It was great to see students that were involved in the bookmark competition and who just simply enjoyed celebrating books.
Amazing and very fabulous CAPA Showcase!
Congratulations to our amazing CAPA (Creative and Performing Arts) faculty for their incredibly successful Showcase. What a great celebration of art, music, dance and all-round student talent. The red carpet was rolled out for our community and the sausage sizzle was fired up to ensure families had the opportunity to have some dinner while enjoying the entertainment. Well done to Mr Andrew Faga and all staff and students involved in the preparation and successful running of an exciting celebration of art.
