Cre8tiveDreamtime Workshops
Aboriginal Education at Cecil
Students participated in the Cre8tive Dreamtime Workshops. These workshops were about how First Nations culture and knowledge related to STEAM - science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
Dean started the workshops to acknowledge that we were on Darug land, and to let the ancestors know we were on their land and pay respect. Dean played his didgeridoo.
Uncle Jimmy showed us how to throw a boomerang and told us about STEAM. Dean shared his knowledge about poisonous plants and how to light a fire. Auntie Paula taught us about the tides, moons and fish traps. In the “Caring for Country” workshop, Auntie Nicole spoke about mobs and connections. Destiny taught us about symbols and navigation with an interactive experience. The virtual reality experience was a realistic video game that was set before European invasion and taught us about traditional culture.
We enjoyed the day and learnt a lot. We would like to thank the Cre8tive Nations team for coming to Cecil Hills High School and sharing their knowledge.
