Wellbeing & Culture

Today at school, students and staff acknowledged R U OK Day by wearing a ‘touch of yellow’ to their school uniform (or AFL clothes).  Students also participated in a small activity with their class and learnt how to support their peers and talk about how they feel. This is an important life lesson, so where better to start than in the classroom.  Some of the activities that students participated in the classrooms today included:

  • A recipe to being a good friend
  • Bucket Fillers
  • Becoming a listening legend
  • Identifying people to talk to
  • Support networks
  • Strengths in others

Harold the Giraffe even made an appearance on the Prep and Junior TVs, taking students through the 4 steps of an R U OK? conversation.

From the R U OK website:

R U OK? inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with life.

You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener.

Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life:

  • - Ask R U OK?
  • - Listen
  • - Encourage action
  • - Check in

If you want to find some more R U OK activities, jump onto the website to find a wide range of great resources that your child might like to use in the school holidays.

We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable 2-week school holiday and we look forward to seeing you in Term 4.
