Last Day of Term and Assembly Information

A reminder tomorrow is the last day of term. Students will be dismissed at 1:30pm following our End of Term Assembly at 12.30pm.  Please note that our local school crossings will be supervised for early dismissal.

Student Leaders’ Positive Change Projects

Each year our student leaders engage in Positive Change projects. In the past these have included new playgrounds, CHPS logoed socks, and the installation of the Gaga Pit.  This year the students have had several projects on the go, one of which is being led by school Captains Emily, Jasmine, Noah and Ryder. Their project, inspired by The School Toilet Project, has been to liven up our school toilets and transform them into a place of safety and comfort.

Well done on leading a lasting positive change in our school. I’ll update the community with more pictures when the project is complete!

Year 3 Bike Ed

Over the past month, preparation for Year 3 Bike Education has taken an exciting turn with the school ordering a set of bicycles, construction starting on our Bike Ed Shed, and teacher planning beginning.

Year 3 families, please look out for tomorrow’s Year 3 Friday Update for more information.

Year 3 kids, whilst you don’t have to have your own bike, if you don’t have one, you may wish to ask your family for an early Christmas present!  Otherwise, try to get out for some practice over the school holidays!

For families interested in purchasing a new bike, a 20 or 24 inch geared kids' bike would be my recommendation.

StageStruck

Well done to the students who performed at StageStruck last week. This event provides students with a passion for the performing arts an opportunity to extend themselves and perform on stage to the community. Thank you to our dedicated Performing Arts teacher, Brodie Sainsbury-King for his ongoing commitment to fostering a love of the performing arts in our students.

Brodie will be sharing some spectacular photos next term.

2024 School Enrolment, Structure and Planning

This week, following a period of collaboration and consultation with various school teams, committees, and School Council, I completed work confirming the school’s 2024 organisation.

In 2024 the school will continue to experience tremendous stability. The school has stable enrolment, which will see us continue with 32 classes. Moreover, staffing is projected to remained incredibly stable.  A notable structural change is that the Senior school will learn as 4 x Year 5 and 4 x Year 6 classes, as opposed to ‘multi-age or composite’ classes. This brings the Senior school in line with Prep, Junior and Middle school with straight grades P-6.  The school will continue to be organised in the four sub-schools with designated learning and play areas.

Safety Around our School

This from the manager of the Yarrunga Community Centre.

Good afternoon,

I understand that at school pick up time there is a demand for parking spaces at the Yarrunga Community Centre car park (behind the primary school), and as a public car park, assessable to everyone.

We are however seeing a great increase in parents parking in No Standing areas or disability places when they are not eligible.

At the front of the centre, there are 2 angled areas that are for turning around only and are also designated as emergency assembly points by Maroondah City Council for our centre in the event of an emergency, but we are seeing parents using them as spaces, leaving there cars to collect children, which then makes it extremely difficult for other drivers who enter the area to find a space, not find one and then have to turn around. There are often children walking to other parents who are parked there, which is a concern.

Samantha Blackwell, Manager Yarrunga Community Centre

I ask all our parent community to be mindful of our neighbours and the safety of our students.  Please park legally and with consideration when dropping and collecting children.
