Pre-Prep to Year 1 Games Day

A remarkable display of excitement and enthusiasm was witnessed during our Pre-Prep to Year 1 Games Day on Tuesday 12 September. The day commenced with the students taking to the track, where they raced, ran, hurdled, and jumped over 40 metres, all while sporting enormous smiles and occasional looks of concentration.

Although there were a few minor slips, and false starts, it was heartwarming to see the students quickly get back on their feet and complete the races to the applause of the many parents and supporters who had gathered to cheer them on. The support from the audience added to the vibrant atmosphere of the event.

Following the track events, the students enthusiastically participated in a variety of rotating activities carefully chosen for maximum fun and engagement. These activities included High Jump, Long Jump, Throwing, Tobogganing, and, without a doubt, the highlight of the day for all – a 15-metre inflatable obstacle course, which prompted exclamations like 'Best Day ever!' from the students.

It is safe to say that everyone had a fantastic day, and all the students were rewarded with Participation Certificates, Ribbons, and Zooper Doopers!

We extend our sincere thanks to Mrs Richardson, who diligently prepared the students with the necessary skills and practice for the day, as well as for her hard work behind the scenes in setting up the event. Additionally, a heartfelt thank you to the Year 5 students who provided invaluable assistance to the younger students, both on the track and during the activities. Their interaction with our Pre-Prep to Year 1 students was truly a pleasure to witness.

Britton Shield

The long-awaited Britton Shield Cricket competition took place on Friday 8 September. It was a day of great anticipation for our 28 dedicated boys who had been diligently training and preparing for many weeks leading up to this event.

Clayfield College made a strong presence at the competition by fielding not just one but two U10 teams, namely the ‘Yellow’ and ‘Green’ teams, in addition to an U8 team. The boys' cricket skills in batting, bowling, and fielding were meticulously honed by our dedicated coaches, Mr Tim O'Rourke and Mr Daine McDonald, ensuring they were well-prepared for the competition.

During our last Monday afternoon training session, the U10 teams faced each other in a closely contested game that counted towards the competition. This game provided the boys with valuable match practice and invaluable guidance from Mr Mark Harris, the Head Coach of our QGSSSA Cricket team.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the parents and supporters who came out to cheer on our teams. Special mention must also go to the Toombul District Cricket Club for being exceptional hosts of the competition.

Lastly, congratulations are in order for all the teams, with the final results as follows:

  • U8: 2nd
  • U10 Yellow: 3rd
  • U10 Green: 4th

Secondary Sport

As the final whistle blew and the echoes of cheers and applause resonating across fields and courts ceased, I thought it was time to reflect on the QGSSSA Winter Fixtures season of sport. The season brought the heat, and the ladders stayed locked up all season long, but it was much more than just wins and losses; it was a season of learning and growth. Athletes honed their skills, improved their teamwork, and discovered their potential. Sportsmanship was on full display throughout the season at training and games.

Whether it was a friendly handshake after a tough match or a word of encouragement to a teammate, the spirit of fair play was evident.

But let us not forget the fun. Laughter, camaraderie, and the thrill of competition were constant companions throughout the Winter season. The QGSSSA Winter Fixtures season may have come to a close, but the lessons learned, and the memories made will endure. It is time to celebrate the dedication, commitment, and sportsmanship after a thrilling nine weeks of competition. Congratulations to all the athletes, coaches, and supporters whose dedication and passion has been a testament to the power of sport to inspire and unite.

Message from the Friends of Sport

It has been a busy and rewarding Term 3 for the Friends of Sport! In support of the Sports Department’s enhanced and reinvigorated Athletics training program, we have been pleased to provide support to our QGSSSA Athletics team in a number of ways:

  • 'Sprints and Smoothies' – after every Wednesday morning training session our athletes have been able to refuel with a choice of smoothies made by our team with recently donated Nutribullets. The smoothies were a huge hit, and our Andrews Cup athletes joined us when training coincided.
  • Pasta dinners provided by the Friends of Sport and Athletics parents were also much appreciated by our athletes competing at the Friday night QGSSSA Athletics lead-up meets at UQ and SAF.
  • Parent timekeepers assisted the Sports Department at the lead-up meets, while cheering on our team.
  • After the Swimming and Cross Country team breakfasts in Term 1 and 2, we assisted with the third and final QGSSSA Championship breakfast for the year – for the Athletics team, before they represent Clayfield with pride at the QGSSSA Championships!

Thank you to those parents who contributed to these events, all of which were very well received by the students.

As you would be aware, the Sports Celebration Dinner (above) is being held on Monday 16 October. Friends of Sport are once again organising our popular year level raffles with prizes including: Basket of Beverages (Year 12), Cool Cabana (Year 11 and Year 9), Restaurant voucher (Year 10), Garmin Sports Watch (Year 8) and Bunnings Voucher (Year 7).

Please help make it memorable by supporting the year level raffle prizes by donating via the link below. Your contribution directly benefits CC Sport Programs.

As the year will be over before we know it, we welcome any new parents from both the Primary and Secondary Schools to join the Friends of Sport. We encourage you to come along if you are interested in assisting with initiatives to help our children’s sport, in support of the College’s Sports Department, for Britton Shield, Andrews Cup and QGSSSA competitions.
